Is it worth keeping at 100k miles? what else can go wrong?

I just picked it up from my indy repair shop. Smells a bit burnt with the new cats, but i must say it seems to scoot a lot better than before. The 4runner is my son's ride now, I have a new Sienna. Don't get me wrong I love Toyotas, I know they are reliable, I just feel like my 2004 4Runner as...

Is it worth keeping at 100k miles? what else can go wrong?

Thanks for that, I did the water pump once at 80k and will be expecting for another I am sure. I guess I just been unlucky with the earlier 2004. Hoping to keep it till 250k and at that mileage will be easier to give away than to sell it.

Just asking what else can go wrong? Transmission? is that a common problem? with my luck that might be next.

The Worst Front Bumper on a 4th Gen

It looks tough! I would not want to see it on my rear view on the fast lane.

Is it worth keeping at 100k miles? what else can go wrong?

2004 4runner limited bought new. Now has 215k miles. at 130k head gasket cost $3400 to fix and now both cats and fuel sensors at $2500. No difference in my toyota 4runner and my 2003 bmw, I should have traded them in before they hit 100k miles. My 1991 accord and 1997 camry were amazing...

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

What was your mileage? 2K for HG replacement service is pretty good, was that with a Toyo Dealer?

I agree 94K is not very good. Sorry for that, I hope the new HG version will take 2x times that.

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

Man you have way too much time in your hands... go find a proof of who was trolling instead of accusing so quickly. Only time will tell and if it does become a common issue then you will only look foolish in the end. I do hope this is not a common issue as it is a painful repair bill for...

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

I would have never thought of registering here just because I have 4runner, maybe you might think I am fishy, but google sent me here and only registered to post my experience. Wait until more and more v6s approach the 150k miles which is not an easy task. If you look at 4 sale 4runner 2003-2004...

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

I had one dealer estimate, $1700 for the tear down and that was the only estimate they can provide, however they said it can go up to $4000 and possibly $5800 with newer engine swap. I think if you know your truck has never been over heated, sure enough the heads should be okay and your only...

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

Mine was very close to your mileage 137k. I just got mine back from the stealership it cost me $3100. They wanted another $1300 to rebuild the heads with valve seats. Wish that I could have just grab the heads and had them worked somewhere else. The best thing that I have ever done on this truck...

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

You do have to understand that not all 600,000 of these vehicles are anywhere near 150k miles, so we really wont know how many will make it to 200k without HG issue. From what I have been reading its cylinder 6 area of the gasket that is having problems and we don't know when Toyo discovered the...

The numbers of these HG problems will grow as more trucks reach that 150k mark.

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

08T4R, It was a very interesting situation today with my stealership. I anonymously called the Toyo service department today and asked them how much does it cost to rebuild the cylinder heads on a 2004 4runner. The person told me its around $200 per head and it includes everything for a rebuild...
