How to make this site better?

Permanently ban the high post count folks who engage in personal attacks and feel the need to comment on every post. Their long time on the forum and high post count should be irrelevant, especially if they rarely, if ever, have 4runner topics to contribute. Lacking this, switch to forum...

    Anything goes thread

Moderator is a hard job. I've never been on a forum where the moderator feels the need to explain and further roll around with the offender/s. That makes the job much harder and is a clear win for the one being moderated.

    Brake caliper maintenance

They are cheap at most any auto store. Unfortunately they are not called 'pins' in the parts look up computer. I used to wire brush them with my bench grinder, but without a power tool it can be just too much work.

    4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

It is 'on purpose'. Some threads on this forum say wait a while until the car warms up and it will switch back to where you left it (outside air) when it is ready to.

    Michelin Stealth Wiper Blades

Pylon - Safety That Lasts They have been through two rainstorms so far, work great. Look much better (on my 4th gen) than the skinny OEM versions. No snow in my part of the world so can't talk about that.

is there an easy way to do oil change? (V8)

I never had any luck with ramps of any kind, they scoot when you try to drive up on them. Must admit that I did solve it at one of my garages with some concrete anchors and metal brackets to keep the ramps still. But that fix left stuff sticking out of the floor

    Spare tire anti theft device?

Years ago it was a common 4Runner theft event. But I think the crooks have moved to more powerful portable cutters and go for the Cat Cvtr now. Those spare tires are heavy and probably fall on you when you cut the cable given that your arm is way out of position to help stop the falling tire.

Help Need - Coolant refill, drain or flush

I'd top it off and keep an eye on it before doing anything more involved. If it is losing coolant I would want to know that before buying coolant and deciding on the desired flush or fill (around $25/gal for the Toyota recommended fluid) Do an advanced search on the forum for all your answers...

    Spare tire anti theft device?

I added a spare tire anti-theft device to my 4Runner when it was new 7 years ago. It's a rod mounted to the chassis, the rod goes through one of the 5 lug stud holes in the spare and a locking device then goes on the rod. Takes a round key like you see on a coke machine. From what I can...

    Brake Fluid - synthetic

What makes it synthetic ? Hasn't polyethelene glycol (dot3,4,5.1) and silicone (dot5) always been synthetic ? They don't sound very close to natural or crude oil'ish to me.

What to think - oil pan stripped

There are fixes short of a replacement pan, some better than others. Time for a second opinion.
