it is making noises, it's making this kind of whiring/grinding noise. i haven't noticed any problems with the way it drives per se, other than the steering seems a little loose.

yeah i called the toyota dealer here in seattle and they wanted $1700 do it, so i called around and found a couple shops that said they put in the third member for $225 labor if i bought and brought in the third member. i found a couple used third members at salvage yards for around $550. found...

thanks for the info. i called a shop in seattle where i live and they said if i bought the third member myself, which i found for about $550, rebuilt, they'd put it in for $225. now that i know i don't need to replace the entire rear end, that makes things a lot easier.

question for the group: apparently my rear differential is bad - metal shavings and water inside - so should i replace just the 3rd member (i assume this is just the rear diff.?) for $275 plus $225 labor, or the entire rear-end for $550 plus $250 labor? any help would be much appreciated since...

so i've had this loud growling/rubbing sort of sound going on in my truck the last week or two. finally got around to having someone take a look at it and they said that my rear differential has water and metal shavings in it. the truck has about 84K miles on it, does this sound "normal?" also...

rotor cap i assume? i am new to toyotas. always had muscle cars growing up.

i just called a couple shops in seattle - greg's japanese auto and a couple of the toyota dealerships - and they quoted me $1400 out the door for a new timing belt, water pump, crank seal, plugs, cap, and fluids. that sounds a little steep to me. anyone have any suggestions for reputable shops...

hey guys - looking to updgrade my headunit and speakers. going with infinitis for speakers and was thinking of going with the scion h/u if it will fit in my truck. anyone know if it will, or have better suggestions for a new h/u?

225/70/15 to 265/75/16 yeah, i was thinking that, too. but, from doing a lot of reading here, it seems like all of the 2000 SR5 V6 4x4s came standard with 265/70/16s. i wonder if that's not the case? and if my truck did indeed come with 225/70/15s from the factory and i am not at 265/75/16s...

225/70/15 to 265/75/16 mine has the 3.4L V6, does that make a difference on what size tires they would have put on it? I am just not sure why the sticker on the door would be different than the tires on the truck, but i have heard that most, if not all, 2000 V6 4x4 came with 265/70/16s.
