Not sure what the clicking sound might be. However there is to covers on each side you can pop off to access screws. I took my sunroof out to address the notorious rust issue on these. The star screws are actually torques down pretty good so yours may have been not that tight and you did...
The only place I know of besides friends at their work is metal supermarkets. We used to insure some locations and they usually have everything you would need in stock.

This is on the main page. showing a lot of people doing the trd offroad suspension and/or fj lift. These are off the TRD sport which from my research is a rougher ride.
Got my first 4 runner last week. 06 sr5 w/leather interior. First mods are practicality and personal touch things. Usb quick charge 3.0 and baseball shifter. Probably overpaid for the truck, but after 6 months of looking at rusted out frames and shot interiors this one was the one.
