    gas backup at the pump

gas splashout Ever since I dropped and reinstalled my gas tank, the pump shuts off on me and splashes gas out if I pump faster than a snail's pace. could this be because the vent hose is kinked or not on tight enough?

    all that for nothing

Oh. I was going to update the thread but see that Kyle has done that already. The vehicle is still running good as new, I'm happy to report! Kyle is da man! And I'm pretty dangerous with a multitester now. I still have to test the rest of the ECM grounds to find out what went wrong but I'm...

    fuel pump strainer clip

Not a problem. Got it off carefully and reused it.

    fuel pump strainer clip

97 4runner. Is there a way to get the circular pump strainer/screen clip off without ruining it? I can't get a new clip till next weekend and I really want to put my pump and tank back in this weekend with a new strainer. Only place that has anything similar is my hardware store but they are...

    all that for nothing

BTW, there is not just power but a full 12v to both white/blue wires. The mistake I made earlier when I said there was no power to the circuit opening relay (and this is why I was baffled) was that I put one probe on the white/blue and one on the green. I took this as "no power" when all it...

Yep, I have power to both white/blue wires. And no ground on green/yellow.

    all that for nothing

I think I misunderstood your previous post. I checked again, and I do have power to the white/blue. But no ground on the green/yellow. It may be a few days before I can get a DMM, unless I can borrow one from someone at work tomorrow. No biggy, its been a month already...

    all that for nothing

Not finding an obvious ground at the ECM...at least I think its the ECM, under the passenger dash. Just a harness coming out going who knows where...

    all that for nothing

I wasnt entirely clear on what you were asking, but I tested for power with my meter with the key on using the white/blue and green/yellow at the back of the fuel pump relay socket. There were two white/blue wires btw. No power either way. Will go check the ecm ground

    all that for nothing

And just in case you were going to ask, it runs no matter which relay I put in the EFI slot.

    Yes.

    all that for nothing

I had both relays jumped, getting ready to run the wire between them like you suggested. But the pump ran as soon as I plugged the pump in. They key wasn't even in the ignition. I used my analog multimeter to test the relay sockets for voltage. To summarize, the pump runs with both relays...

    all that for nothing

OK now I'm confused. Got home from work and jumped the fuel pump/circuit opening relay, which did not have voltage when I tested it. I went to plug in the pump at it's normal socket to get it ready for running the long jump from relay to relay. But the pump ran immediately. Wait a minute-went...

    all that for nothing

Why would you go through all the trouble of removing the fuel pump, when you can test it in-tank in the vehicle? ----------------------------- Ahem...I waited a month between the time the problem started and when I dropped the tank, because I was not convinced the pump was the problem and was...

    all that for nothing

How do I know which terminals to jump? The relays aren't marked. I can see which one is blue/orange on the circuit opening relay (that is the power to the pump) but I don't know which one to jump it TO, and I can't see any wire colors on the relay box under the hood. Remember I'm a self-admitted...
