If you only use 4x4 in the dirt/mud/snow, you can get away with 5.38 in the front and 5.29 in the rear. I wouldn't do this in a full-time 4wd or AWD configuration, but a rugular ol' 4x4 should be fine. I have read about quite a few people doing this (mostly on pirate), no personal experience.

I feel your pain. Sport/Highlander is marketing BS, and reflects nothing in terms of real world hardware. Everything you need to convert any old $4k 4runner into a "sport" is available to those willing to slap the (few) parts on.

100 miles on country roads with minimal traffic would be fine. I would look at either a real trailer or a real tow vehicle if we're talking normal city traffic with idiots everywhere. Tow dollies suck!

Skip the body lift. Lift plus good tires will eat up about 2/3 of your budget, if not a bit more. I'd say pocket the remainder for a rainy day fund or gas money.

I've read on the forums that moog springs ride like crap. No personal experience. Might be worth looking into before you buy.
