My 4runner is a 1998, 3.4 V6. I got used engine ~1200.00, they are working on the repair as I write.

That is what happened to me! Did the truck have a major motor oil leak after the noise happened? I found a used engine that will replace the old one. :( I am sorry to hear that!

I have a V6 engine (6cyl). Very low mileage, great times! :( I don't want to get rid of the truck, not even if my husband wants a 5th generation. I LOVE THE 3rd generation of 4runners. :(

It came out from the bottom of the car. The driver of the tow truck mentioned something like "maybe the case broke". The mechanic tells me that the core has to be replaced and that the lower part of the motor is gone. I call Toyota and they offer to take a look at the engine to see what went wrong.
