I also have an 06 in Salsa Red Pearl and have the same issue. Once the clear coat is gone the only solution is to repaint. It is, but the recall is for their "White Blizzard Pearl" which does have a clear coat.

Did they tell you which code(s) were thrown?

2UZ starter is under the intake manifold. I haven't had to do mine but there are a lot of YouTube videos about replacing the air injection pump. Should give some good info on getting the manifold off.

It shows that it supports the same features as the 06. They may not have the trim drop down set up correctly. I'd check with them on their forum about it before you dismiss it.
