I had the same issue but didn't want to trim the pad so I turned my rubber pad around 180 and then reinstalled it. Hatch closes much better with no side shifting. Phillip- Yota8533

Urgent Help Needed - Steering Rack Bushing trouble
When i did my steering rack bushings I had the same issue. Try turning the bracket over the bolt is shorter than the stud if im remembering correctly. Phillip- Yota8533
