If your rear wiper makes one solitary swipe upon start-up and the switch is in the "off" position, that's the 4Runner's way of telling your your battery needs to be replaced.

Any idea where the strong rubber smell was coming from if the defroster wasn't turned on? Was it a burning smell like a short circuit?

99% of people won't even ever need 4lo, so just because YOU want it so you can go wheeling or whatever, the rig will run and drive perfectly fine without it. If I were the seller, I'd give you exactly $0 off for this.

When I used to live in Boston I needed a resident parking permit, which was affixed to the inside of the rear window. After I moved out of Boston I attempted to remove the permit and realized that there was no way to get it off without possibly damaging the defrost wires. Can anyone on here...

I know this is a really old thread, but I'm hoping you were able to figure out how to fix this because I just had my dash apart today to do some work on the stereo and as I was re-connecting everything I didn't hear the 4wd selector click when I pressed it in so I thought I had broken the clip...

I'm not sure what would cause the rear window - or any window, really - to spontaneously shatter while the car is parked, but it would stand to reason that if one of the defroster wires has been damaged, i.e. had the insulation scraped off while trying to remove a parking permit or other...

I think the radiators get damaged when the coolant lines from the transmission to the radiator are wrestled off, because I recently had to replace mine for the exact same reason.
