I was in the same boat ('12 Silver TE considering '17 Pro), but my motivation was due the excessive underbody rust. This thread has convinced me it is worth keeping the 12 TE and putting in the work to clean up and coat the underbody. Thanks for the help!

Unique solution! Having some experience with this sort of thing, I can provide some background knowledge. The dampers have higher force as temp increases, so you could encounter issues with cold temperatures (less force to hold door open). Being from Las Vegas, you may not ever has this issue...
