One cause & fix for "VSC TRAC" & "VSC OFF" lights, Zero Point Calibration

The zero point calibration will not give a CEL (check engine light) or error code to a code reader. If your CEL is on along with the VSC and TRAC then you have a separate problem. Error code 430 is for second sensor on second bank (for 4th gen 4Runners this is the O2 sensor after the...

Thanks for posting! This worked like a charm on my '04 4Runner.

The Engine Is A Goner, Warped Head And Long Block!!

Been there --- Done that Too bad I didn't run across your thread earlier. I actually performed the same swap in 2007. You can read the fun here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/problems-warranty-issues/25254-has-anyone-pulled-v6-engine-4th-gen-4runner.html. I also could have warned you about...

    H02 Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P0136 Code???

Have you considered swapping the #2 O2 sensors between the driver and passenger side to see if the failure code goes to the other bank? That would tell you if the problem is with the sensor or the wiring going to the Q2 sensor.

Has anyone pulled V6 engine from 4th Gen 4Runner?

Update Well since the thread has been bumped to a recent post, I fgure I'd give an update on the 4Runner. It now has 78k miles (54k since the engine replacement). The only problem was that for some reason around 50k miles the flexplate cracked. The flexplate was from the original motor so I...

Thump noise from Front Suspension - 4th Gen 4Runner

The steering stop is exactly what I was trying to describe. Thanks for the picture. I didn't know if that was the lubrication point or if it was supposed to be the 'bumpers' on the lower A-arm. Thanks for remembering the exciting times of replacing the motor in the 4Runner. The truck runs...

Thump noise from Front Suspension - 4th Gen 4Runner

I've been in other 4Runners that have a 'thump' noise coming from the front suspension when the wheel is at full lock and the suspension is going over a change in grade (like backing out of driveway onto the street). I've heard that there is something on the front suspension that needs to be...

    Engine Replacement

Cliffnotes: I'd go with junkyard motor. I had to go though the great joys of engine replacment on my 4th gen 4Runner read the fun HERE!. I initially planned on rebuilding the engine but found that there was too much internal damage to make rebuilding the engine cost effective (even though I...

    better gas mileage....v8

I'm ready to jump on the 'dump the carbon filter' bandwagon also but the .pdf posted by 2k3T4R also mentions that the intake runners are adjustable through the "ACIS". Maybe the ACIS takes into account the restriction of the carbon filter and adjusts the intake track length to compensate...

    Hybrid 4 Runner?

Great thread. I personally would like to purchase a diesel or hybrid in my next vehicle (5 more years till that point). Gasoline engine cars have come very far in fuel economy and performance. I just think back to the bad old days of the 70s/80s when Detroit cars were absolute slugs. Today's...

    Time to change some tires

I was running around a constuction site and picked up a nail on the edge of the sidewall of my Michelin CT. At this point I only need 1 tire to replace the one that picked up the nail. My 4Runner has the Michelin CTs. I had always assumed that they were the second pair of tires on my '04...

Why I ditched my LR Discovery for a 4Runner

When I think of the Landrovers I think of them being used in true wilderness. Well my sister and her husband live in South Africa. He's 'africani' which I belive is the term used for the Dutch that settled in S. Africa. Anyway, my sister & husband are serious outdoors people and they spend...
