Removing the center shaft of the CV axle and driving without it

I did some more research on this and it turns out that the outer joint is considered non-serviceable by Toyota, and the shaft is not supposed to be removed from the outer joint. So this brings me to a question (mostly for MStudt): Forgive me if I misunderstood you, but did you remove the...

Removing the center shaft of the CV axle and driving without it

Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't believe I HAVE to remove either end of the CV in order to remove the shaft. If I remove the 4 ball joint bolts (and possibly unbolt the caliper), Im about 99% sure that I will be able to swing the hub assembly OUT, and remove the "tripod" from the inner...

Removing the center shaft of the CV axle and driving without it

Hi guys, After a long road trip, I noticed that BOTH my inner CV boots blew. I need to take the truck on another long trip before I have the time to reboot. I don't want to drive with torn boots, so I'd like to remove the center sections of the axles, keeping both CV "ends" in place. So my...

Loose preload on front diff pinion.

Why would the crush sleeve fail all of the sudden? The truck didnt see anything other than city driving on paved roads for atleast a month prior to this problem happening.

Loose preload on front diff pinion.

So my truck started making a VERY loud humming noise while decelerating in 4x4 all of the sudden. I disconnected the front drive shaft, and noticed that the companion flange on the front diff has a TON of in an out play. Probably 1/8-1/4". It was so bad that when its pushed in, I could spin it...

Confused about Bilstein 5100 part number for LC coils. Please help!

I'd like to try Bilstein 5100 for my LC 7.5 wraps in the rear. The problem is that I see 2 different part numbers. The part number most commonly mentioned is 24-100144, but Sonoran Steel lists 33-187174 as the shock included with his 1.2 kit that uses the same LC coils. 33-187174 has about 1...

Are the radiator supports welded in or bolted on?

    Agreed. Certafit fitment is poor.

Replaced the trannies. Going forward in reverse now..

Thanks for the reply. This is a bummer. I spend my whole weekend pulling/installing transmissions and turns out it was probably all for nothing... I didn't open up both transmissions to look inside, because I assumed that if they are identical outside, and both are A340F, they would be the...

Replaced the trannies. Going forward in reverse now..

Hi guys. I recently bought another 4runner for my wife with a blown auto tranny. It milkshaked a year ago, the guy flushed it, and it died a year later (really bad slippage in first, not shifting properly, etc). I had a spare good tranny from a parts truck, so I swapped it in. The truck is...

    Antifreeze Question for my 1999 4cyl 4runner

Why would you run out of antifreeze? Do you have a leak or a BHG? I wouldn't worry about it if you don't. And if you do, you really shouldn't be driving long distances. But to answer your question, you shouldn't mix the yellow and pink antifreezes. Its not going to cause any damage short term...
