Ok folks, time for our next outing, this Saturday Aug 5th at 9am: Forest Lake trail and Mineral Basin area.

Both are up American Fork Canyon. Forest Lake trail starts with a small water crossing and goes 1.8 miles up to a small hidden lake. The beginning is the most technical part and is fine for stock and lightly modified rigs. From the lake we'll double back and hang a right to check out the area of Mineral basin. We'll take that road as far up as people feel comfortable.

Meet at the Chevron in Alpine at 9am and we'll head out from there. Address is 5260 W 11000 N, Highland, UT 84003.

Note that a day pass to play in AF canyon is $6 and is payable at the canyon entrance. We'll air down at the Tibble Fork parking lot.

Bring a friend, bring a camera, bring some snacks and we'll see you there! All are welcome.

Justin

Bonus round: For those with additional time and interest, I plan to explore Timpooneke road after Mineral Basin. Feel free to tag along.

Looks like a good group.

Weather should be good for tomorrow for those coming along.

See you in the morning.

Had a good time on Forest Lake trail with my brother and my son. Tagged a boulder at one point but whatever. Getting a new tail light today. Saw this SAS first Gen up at the lake. All in all a fun day.

Just need someone to post up with an idea! Where do you want to go?

I'm seriously considering Moab Sept 15/16. It would be fun to get a group together if people want to go. I'd just be doing moderate trails, nothing too extreme.

I might be doing Moab at the end of the month. I am open for something around Salt Lake City.

Hey all. Im new to the beehive state and definitely new to offloading! I just purchased my dream car! I need to get outta my house and do stuff! I live in the Ogden area. Anyone close by wants to link up to do a meet and greet and maybe show me around would be great! So far, my 4Runner is bone stock, but it is a TRDP!

Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I were going to go to Glacier but last minute decided to head to Utah/Moab. We leave wednesday and because of the last minute change (mainly because of current weather at Glacier) I'm scrambling to try and find some info.

We are wanting to do a couple trail runs obviously around Moab so if anyone has any recommendations on some good runs for a stock suspension but with 285s that would be great.

Also looking if someone could give some friendly local knowledge on a good camping spot as we will not have time to make any sort of reservation. We would like something close to water if possible.

Lastly, any kayaking (easy) spots that anyone knows would be great.

Thanks for the help! Feel free to shoot me a PM or just reply here.

Doug

Here is a good description of the trails:

Red Rock 4-Wheelers, Inc. -

For a stockish rig you might want to stick with trails rated at 4 and below. I will be going to Moab soon, planning to run Fins & Things, Hell's Revenge (using bypasses), and Seven Mile Rim.

Camping info here:
Moab Campgrounds
No reservations required for BLM camping: BLM Campgrounds surrounding Moab, Utah

For water and kayaking, you might consider camping near the Colorado River.

Don't forget to go into Arches Ntl Park to see everything there. Double Arch was in one of the Indiana Jones movies. It is awesome to see in person.

Have fun and be sure to post up some pics of the trip!

Justin

Thanks Justin! Appreciate the help.

I'm being told Arches is completely closed even to hikers right now due to construction. Right now I'm leaning towards camping along the Colorado River as you mentioned and then spending a day and running White Rim Road as that seems the best suited for us and should be a fun ride with great views.
