Hey,
I just got my 4runner last December. I'm down for wheeling, but to be honest, I am very scared of damaging my baby.

I live in New Castle, which is about 15 miles from Glenwood Springs. I haven't done too much wheeling, but I'd love to really get into it. Truth is, I'm just a little hesitant seeing as this is my first vehicle, but I'm pretty confident in my driving, and even more in my baby. Not sure how often I can get to Denver with work and such, but if anyone comes up this way by chance or what not, I'd love to tag along

I'm always down for some wheeling especially if it involves some camping and fishing along the way.

Stock 4th gen 4runner with 32" BFG AT/KO's here.
I have been exploring the 4x4 roads all over the White River and Roosevelt National Forests as well as trips up towards Hahn's peak, Crystal City/ Schofield Pass.

I would really like to see how far I can push this 4runner but don't since usually I am solo and don't have another 4x4 vehicle with me for recovery efforts.

Just saw the bump on this thread.....

Just moved to Golden about 2 months ago and been looking for places to wheel, camp and fish. Keep me updated when you guys go.......as long as you don't mind going with a Chevy Truck 4Runner still has stock Dunflops and I just don't trust them off road.

So far I've been over Mosquito pass and I was looking at the trip to Bill Moore Lake outside of Empire.....

Hey Brad your welcome to wheel with me any time. I may be busy the next weekend or two helping my girlfriend move but If something opens up I'll send you a pm. I'd like to make at least one or two more trips multi day trips before it starts getting cold again.

I'd pick up a Roosevelt and White River National Forest map or any other areas your going to for starters. These will show all the forest and 4x4 roads as well as streams, and a ton of other useful info.

I bought a topo map of the entire state, and it has been helpful. It shows all the forest service roads, but it doesn't say their condition.

The road up over Mosquito pass was a lot worse than I was planning.....I thought it was forest service road the whole way, but ended up being a shale field for about 2 or 3 miles.....it took forever.....

Thinking about getting out and doing some 4x4ing and some fishing this weekend.....

Anyone interested or have any good suggestions on a good trail with a place to wet a line as well.

Where's ric? I know he has got to know of a few places that meet my criteria.

Bill Moore Lake?

I have done the crystal city/ schofield pass trail and that was awesome.

Not sure how much more of a difficult trail I want to go on solo as I did get some minor body damage on that one. No big deal for me though. I can deal with that stuff. After all I didn't buy it not to use it.

Am I correct in assuming wheeler lake might be to difficult for my vehicle without potential substantial body damage?
