New member from new york with a 04 4runner limited
Hey guys,
I finally got an account created, I have lurked around a bit on these forums once in a while in the past for some very useful info. I'm pretty much a newb at trucks, and well cars in general, I'm a computer technician by trade so cars are a new thing for me.
just got a (new to me) 4runner from my dad.
it's a nice white 2004 4runner limited v6 everything major is pretty much stock. The only thing I've changed was the head unit, changed the stock JBL speakers, added new headlights with projectors for HIDs, 3000k hids for the fogs & 6000k for the lows and that's pretty much it. I was considering LED tail lights like in some of the later models, I'll probably hold off on them for now.
Big things like suspension, exhaust, rims & tires and so on are all stock. I'm not sure if I'll be doing much to those. I really just use this as my daily driver for school and work right now haven't given much thought to offroading as yet.
It's got about 75,000 miles on the clock so if you can give me any advice on things to check/look out for that'll be awesome. Still flipping through the owner's manual and service manual. I'd like to get into the habit of doing minor maintenance myself, i.e. oil changes, tire rotation etc. The most I've done has been changing a flat and plugging a wheel and changing filters (intake and cabin)
Anyway, as I said I'm a computer technician by trade so the world of cars is a new one, if you have any questions about computers shoot me a pm ill see if I can help out and ill be sure to pick your brain with any car/truck questions, after a search of course =P

Very nice! Those headlights look awesome! I go to school in Brooklyn.
I have an Audiovox remote starter that works fairly well. It is not incorporated into the factory remote though.

Haha thanks!
Brooklyn?? Where about do you go to school, if you dont mind me asking. I recently went back to school and im currently enrolled at City Tech right on Jay Street.
Let me know which remote starter you have, thats pretty much next on my todo list. If possible I wouldnt mind JUST the RS. I dont really have an issue with the current Toyota Alarm. If its possible to add the RS ontop of the current toyo alarm that works perfect for me, only because id assume it would be a little bit cheaper than purchasing a whole new setup.
Ill start my search tonight when im back from work thanks for the insight!

I go to school at SUNY Downstate. Brooklyn is way too overcrowded and difficult to find parking for the runner
My remote starter does not interfere with the toyota alarm. It is only a remote starter. Basically, I push the button on my other remote to start the vehicle. Once my truck is running, the toyota alarm will not activate so I need to open up the old fashioned way- put the key in the door. I could open up with the remote first and then remote start because if somebody were to go inside my truck, it would stall out if they press the brake or pop the hood.
