Recently sold my 2nd Tacoma and decided I wanted to get something a little cheaper so I started looking into a 4runner. After 3 weeks of looking and many deals that fell through I finally found the one.
It's a 1996 Limited with the e-locker that I found on craigslist. Bought off the original owner. When I pulled up to get it I wasn't really sure what to expect. It was a 3 hour drive from my house in Indiana and I hadn't even seen a picture of the truck before.
Turns out the guy was retired and in his late 60's. He was an old filipino man who once was an engineer for John Deere. His wife had passed away years before and he decided it was time to move back to the Philippines.
He took great care of the truck. He had it rust proofed in 96 when he bought it so it's pretty much rust free. No rust on the body at all. Frame is clean as well and everything underneath is nearly perfect. The axle has some rust on it but doesn't seem too bad.
I snagged it up at a killer price and am very happy with it so far. Yesterday I removed the running boards, changed the fuel filter, cleaned the MAF/throttle body, and did the deckplate mod. Today I washed, clay barred, polished, and waxed it. Still trying to decide if I want to stick with the Tacoma wheels or get a set of Method Racing wheels.
