New SOCAL 4x4 4runner owner
Hey guys,
Been lurking a little bit, now I bought another 4runner and decided to sign up.
I have owned 3 Tacomas, I have always loved them. I bought my first 4runner a year ago and I have loved it even more. I can do everything I did with my truck with very limited exceptions, I even throw full sheets of plywood in the back of my 4runner no problem.
The 4runner I have owned is a 2000 2wd 4cyl base. Great car, about 160K on it now and still runs perfect even with nothing but oil changes and air filter replacements. Last night, I bought a 1998 Limited, 4wd, V6, with locker with only 90K and I am planning on having some fun with this one. Really excited about it!
I had to leave immediately to get the car because it was a deal ($5540) and I couldn't get anyone to drive up to LA with me on a whim (I live in Escondido), so I ended up going to Uhaul and getting a car hauler, and using the new truck to haul the old one back down. Worked great, under 60 MPH no problem... check out the pic!

Kinda funny seeing a 4Runner hauling a 4Runner. Well enjoy both of them! 😜

Wow, $5,500 is a steal for that 4runner!
Any issues with it? Accidents, etc? Where did you find it?
You can turn around and sell it now for $10k easily! Tempting...

I know I figured $8,000 would be a pretty good price. Has a few nicks in the paneling, and the hatch it the back has some big dents. I will probably just replace the hatch all together, and the paneling I am planning to paint black.
I think it was actually hit in the rear and they replaced the hatch with a junkyard hatch that was in bad shape but maybe they got it for cheap.
After towing using it to tow the other home I realized that the oil was at least a YEAR OLD.... I put mobile 1 in it and hoped the motor would forgive me haha.

If anyone asks just say that the older 4Runner is your track day vehicle.

Nice to see another from SoCal! I may have TXplates but I'm holed up at the naval base on Point Loma, hopefully when I get back we can have a T4R meetup for SoCal members to meet and greet
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this rig bud!
