I posted on the 3rd Generation Forum, but I just wanted to introduce myself here as well... I've been lurking for a while. I live in College Station, Texas but recently bought a 2001 4Runner in Kingsport, Tennessee. I was looking for an 01 or 02, Limited, 4WD in Stellar Blue. There were only two in the country - one in Oregon and the other in Tennessee. The one in Oregon sold before I had a chance to call so I made a deal on the 2001 in Tennessee.
The 4Runner looked even better than advertised. Here is a photo I took at HD Motors in Kingsport. The T4R had 157,000 miles on it, but it looked like much less. The interior looked almost new - it even had the original Limited floormats in it. There is a little wear on the driver's seat, but other than that it looks great.
I didn't like the windscreens on the hood and windows so I took them off at the dealership. I purchased the Weathertech tan floorliners - I like how the driver-side mat has a hole for the retainer clip. Other than that so far it has been just a few minor purchases.
I'm selling my 1997 Desert Dune Metallic Pearl 2WD Limited 4Runner, but that will be on another thread.
I'm trying to find the tan cargo shade for the 2001-2002... these two years have different mounts (curved on the bottom) and are apparently very hard to find. I want to buy some "like-new" 5-Stars. I like the current wheels, but the 5-Stars look better in my opinion.
Future plans include:
- Rear Shrockworks bumper with tire carrier and jerry can mount (standard width)
- Front ARB Bumper (Taco)
- Rock sliders (probably Stubs Welding)
- Whitson Metalworks full-length roof rack (sunroof option)
After this is done I'm going to paint the bumpers, fender flares and limited cladding a medium metallic blue color that complements the Stellar Blue factory paint. I'm thinking a satin or semi-gloss finish at this point (what is between satin and sem-gloss?). All of the "bars" on the vehicle will be painted a bright silver metallic color. This includes the bull bars on the front bumper, the rock sliders, and the roof rack. I want to add some bars on the rear bumper that protect the rear quarters and tail lights - these will be painted the same silver color. On the rear bumper the bottom horizontal components will be painted the medium blue color. Everything above that, including the jerry can mount, will be painted Stellar Blue. I want to try and mount the license plate on the jerry can mount instead of on the wheel since I am going to have a new 5-Star here. As I mentioned the custom bars I am envisioning on the rear bumper will be bright silver.
Example of Shrockworks rear bumper that I want
After all of this is done I have some ideas on getting some custom metalwork done to continue the limited flares on the aftermarket bumpers - I think I have it worked out in my head, but there is a lot to do before I get to this point.
This forum is outstanding... I look forward to getting to know my fellow 4Runner owners.
