Exclamation "check engine light"

Hey all I need a little insight here. I have a 97 4-Runner with 224K miles and I LOVE my little green machine but this mornin my check engine light came on. I had hoped it was because I was low on fuel and running on fumes but when I finally got her some go juice and a quart of oil (she was a little low) the light did not go off. So obviously not the issue. I know I could take her and have someone check the codes but being a chick I always get ripped off. I know it throws a code if the gas cap is loose and looses some of the vac but I checked that too. So other than the O2 sensor is there some other things I should consider?

It would be terribly difficult to give any specific advice without knowing what code it's throwing, LadyGrey. Luckily for you, most auto parts stores will check that code for free. Then they'll probably give you advice that involves buying something from them, and you can take that advice or you can truck back over here and let us know what code(s) are reported and we can try and help from there.

Welcome to the site.

Thanx for the welcome! Nah she still running good and sounds good and no other warning triggers so I guess I will see if I can get some codes and hope they do not try and treat me like a dim-wit!

Show 'em your fire power!

Friends don't have one? Eventually you'll want your own, found mine on ebay for under $20, I'm sure its 'cheap' from chinatown but its been working for several years....luck!

This post made me appreciate that my best friend works for AZ haha
I know how you feel, being a chick in an auto parts store! It definitely sucks!
Unfortunately I can't help you with your problem, sorry.
I just wanted to welcome you to the site! It's nice to have another girl.
Good Luck!!
