Red October

Hey everyone. Im new here, but that probably obvious since this is the noob section. Just wanted to say "hey". I have been a lurker here for quite a while now, and there is a ton of really great knowledge here.

I will admit it Im a convert Zuker. Although, before my Zuks I had a Gen 2 4Runner that I loved. So when my wife decided that I needed more space and a better platform it was an easy decision to look for a 4Runner.

"Red October" is a '97, base truck, I bought her for a song.

But with just the right options. She has power options, but no sunroof, and cloth seats. Believe it or not I'm not a fan of leather, especially in AZ, and the sunroof takes up a lot of head room. Being a base model, she has a 2.7, but with a 5 speed, 4x4, and the 16" wheel package. That means factory 4.56 axle ratios.

Im excited, and already have a pile of new parts, since this truck has just over 200K, and has been neglected a bit. Not really abused, just not babied. That became very apparent after driving her for a couple days. I noticed a misfire, and a shudder. So I did the DTC thing, and a couple other diagnostics, but when I did compression and leak-down tests I found out just how neglected she has been. But its OK, old girls need lovin too.

So far plans include, but not in any particular order;
- Engine rebuild, shes gotta run, since the plan is to DD this truck
- Mini Header, brown santa brought me one today! (cast manifold is cracked, go figure)
- OME 881s and Tundra Bilstein 5100s in front.
- OME 890s with LC Tokikos in the back
- 265's for now. She already has 265s and they seem to work really well, plenty of pep even with the really tired motor.
- Sliders, bumpers, armor, etc. I will most likely build them myself.
- Maybe Tacoma wheels, wifey hates the steel, I actually kinda dig it but maybe with some paint.
- Tacoma whip
- E-Locker
- And on like this...

Did I mention I was Excited!

Here she is on the way home

Welcome from a fellow AZ runner. Looks good, I'm sure I saw that on CL not too long ago, I'm always watching there. Coming from zuks and a 2nd gen I'm positive you wont regret your purchase. Love the 2.7, would like to get a Tacoma with one someday. Don't be afraid to start picking brains of the 3rd gen guys for any help you might need. Again, welcome!

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with her so far. This is quite the upgrade in space, road noise, creature comforts, etc. A big step up. Not that I didn't love my Zuks, but I'm happy movin up.

She was listed for about a day when I snapped her up. It just had the right stuff, and a decent price.
