Strut replacement

I recently replaced the top mount for my front strut because the top nut and bushing had popped out of the mount. When I took the spring and top mount off the strut there was only one bushing on the top side of the mount. The nut and bushing has worked its way out again. Should there have been a bushing on the underside of the mount as well?

@Eshua2 , you are new here and you have told us nothing your 4Runner other than you are having trouble putting a coil-over back together. First, it would be helpful to tell us what year your 4Runner is. Then, it would be even more helpful to you, to post this question in the particular sub-forum that pertains the the model year/generation of your Runner as it will get way more exposure to others that have dealt with the same issues as yourself. You see, this is the "NEW MEMBERS" sub-thread where newbies introduce themselves. I'm just trying to be helpful here. For instance, I own a 4th gen (2003-2009). If I knew that you were talking about a 4th gen, I would tell you that "NO" there is not a bushing under the strut "hat" but rather, a retainer cushion. I would then even display a schematic of the entire assembly so that you could refer back to it at your convenience. I would then tell you that whenever you do suspension work, you HAVE to go back, after 100 miles or so, and RE-TORQUE EVERYTHING so that things like this do not happen!

That being said, WELCOME TO OUR FORUM!! Please tell us more about you and your 4Runner and even post a pic!

@Eshua2 , OK, so after looking at your profile and seeing your October post regarding your possible CV join issue in the "PROBLEMS AND WARRANTY ISSUES" sub forum (where again, you failed to fully describe your Runner and your issue and thus nobody responded to your problem) you said that you have an '03. It also means, technically, you are not a new member. OK, so now I know that you have a 4th gen 4Runner. Here is a schematic of your OEM front suspension:

I'm sorry I'm coming off as a hard-ass, as I try to be helpful to everyone on this forum, but you have to have some common sense and give us more info next time.

@preacher35 , Thank you for the information. I have a couple more questions. Am I able to purchase just the retainer pad. I am not able to find a retainer pad or a bushing kit that would include one. Is it more like a washer or a bushing? Once again thank you for the information.

If you follow this link to the mount form O'reily Auto parts is it the washer in the center? Thanks again.
