Hello everyone, I have been reading a lot of tech threads here for a little over a month as I bring a "new to us" 4runner up to snuff. This is our first Toyota, first 4x4 etc. We are excited to get it trail ready and go have some fun.
About the 4Runner: After searching Craigslist for a while we found one with an original owner and couldn't pass up the opportunity, and the fair price. Its a 2000 Highland model, rear locker etc. So far I have replaced the Cat, timing belt (was original belt with 233k miles on it!), gas cap etc. Read article about silicone vacuum lines and ordered a kit (still throwing a code for a small leak).
Just for fun The vehicle still had the window sticker.
Finally got all codes taken care of. Replacing all the vacuum lines did the trick! Could be a fluke but our mileage went down from a consistent 21mpg to 19mpg after lines replaced. Going to source a tran cooler and remove the hideous bull bar next.

Thanks, I have been reading away on this site and learning a ton of what works and what doesn't as well as repair and maintenance info. Now I have to chase why I have a decline in mileage. I am looking at putting the dual prong spark plugs in and replacing the wires, previous owner had autolites installed and wires are original.....also don't think the guy I bought it from ever replaced the fuel filter. Going to hammer out all the mechanical stuff before I get crazy with the fun stuff.
