Oh man. Have you been able to find out what is the problem?

Hello just recently purchased a 19 4Runner. Long time off road enthusiast coming from the Jeep world glad to be in a Toyota again. I will be building the runner as a work/overland rig. Looking to take my family camping and on adventures like I went on with my dad when I was younger. I'm located in SW Texas and enjoy spending time out in the desert and hill country and trips to the beach. I will be starting a build thread once I am able to post. Thanks have a great day.

I work with a guy in Austin and they go out often with their 4x4 club - good luck :)

Welcome. I am still looking for one myself :)

I’m Dave from Columbus, Ohio. So far I like this forum a lot. It’s been helpful for the new Toyota owner that I am. I’m a member of “gsresources” (Suzuki GS Moto forum) and “dotheton” (custom/resto/restomod ,vintage bike forum) so with that said Forums are not foreign to me.

I bought this 2 owner (both PO’s worked at the dealership) all stock 1996 Toyota 4Runner Limited last June and have really fallen in love with it. The 4Runner has 170,000 on it now. Ive only put about 7k on in about 13 months since I live close to work. Always a few things to work on but I’ll be honest, I don’t have many plans to get crazy with this thing. I own a few older motorcycles and take pride in maintaining them and this 4Runner will get the same love. So far I’ve used the search function on this site to get some tips on parts purchases for OEM stuff. I used “amayama” to get outer tie rod ends as well as some valve cover gaskets/intake manifold gaskets, orings and other bits that I typically go OEM on with any vehicle. I bought the Japanese MOOG 555(?) inners on amazon and bellows locally. Installed the inners/outers/bellows. NGK spark plugs(double’s) and NGK wires. I religiously run shell v-nitro through all my vehicles as well (in a pinch high octane Sunoco gas is a no brainer). Currently waiting for my Gibson stainless CatBack exhaust to arrive and in the meantime am refinishing my rusted hitch (wire wheeled and welding flat stock patch to back where there is a hole) along with prepping my undercarriage to have Line-X coat it before winter. Hoping I can give it to them in as close to coating condition as I can in case they are lazy with prep(first time using their services). I don’t have a lot of pics but here are the few I do have. Thanks to the many people posting tutorials, build threads, tips and tricks and just plain old 4Runner porn for the rest of us to drool over.

Pulling my little refinished 4x7’ trailer I got for free in very rough condition from my brother in law. Hauled some brush that day, I also haul my 1984 PE175 to Wayne National Forrest to ride trails.

Bought 100sq.ft of paver stone for $126 on an online auction ($568 at Home Depot now) and was afraid the rough ride on the trailer would crack some pieces so I removed the babies car seat (ugh....), laid the seat down and loaded each piece. Pulling the pallet to my car by hand nearly pulled my quads. I assumed it was only 500-600lbs.... later discovered is was 1,750lbs !!! Luckily a short drive home and I’m still to this day impressed with the lack of sag it caused on the aged suspension.

One of the PE because I just did a refresh on her and it’s too sexy too keep it to myself.

And the fair weather DD 1981 GS450S that does include the 4Runner as an “extra” in this shot. Attachment 341941

Welcome :)

Hello Guys,

New member here. Just found out about this Forum 2 months ago and decided to be a member. last year I purchased a 2018 White SR5P and absolutely love the SUV. Can't wait to work on the vehicle with some mods. Here are couple pictures I took ( sorry they are night pictures...) hope you guys enjoy them I will try to take some more shots in the future.

Probably my favorite color, although I am looking for an used one in my budget so color is not a "requirement" at the moment ;)

New to me '16 Trail. Never been off road in my own vehicle - always with friends or my Dad. He owned a 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen and we'd get lost when I was a kid. I remember when we went to get the 3rd gen the Toyota dealer in Ogden, UT had a black Twin Turbo Supra on the showroom floor. Now that dad is in Florida (Hill AFB to Eglin AFB), he's got an FRS he beats up on and said he'd fly out and get that lovin' feeling again in the mountains in mine.

After my wife and I relocated to Colorado for work I made it a priority to get a 4Runner. Finally did it in July after my '13 WRX was totaled in a hail storm.

Got lost yestarday with an experienced friend around Dakan Road, Upper Jackson Road, and Long Hollow Road. Got to a section somewhere near Long Hollow that triggered my self-preservation instinct and we turned back. We'd been driving for probably 3 hours at that point. To my buddies credit, he wasn't mad I called it. I don't think he was that confident we'd get over the top without a little trail damage either.

Something I didn't realize - you can go down a section and come back up it and have a totally different experience. Around Dakan or Upper Jackson, we went down a section pretty easily. When we came back we both got a little stuck going up. He backed up a little and nailed it in his Xterra. I couldn't see where he want exactly because of trees, but I stopped in the same place. I was able to go down to 1st gear in 4 Low, engaged the locker, and the car did the rest without much input from me.

I don't want to do trails that would need rock sliders, but I now really want a set in case I have a lapse in judgement or just make a mistake. New tires are also gonna be important. These wheels will probably get Blizzaks for the winter, and I'll get the TRD Pro wheels and some nicer tires for off road.

Also - words can't describe how much I missed a roll down rear window.

That off-road capability is why I want to dump my current suburban and get a 4runner :)

Here's a pic of my ride. Trying to figure out how to post pictures. It's a TRD off road.

Not yet, I'm gonna change all the belts and the idler pulley. And see what that does. The timing belt was done at 182000 miles and I'm at 212k so I dont think it's that.

Looks great!

The one I am looking at is a 2011 that has a sticker on the side that looks "legit" saying TRD Off Road. Is there a way to verity by the VIN that it "does" have that package? If yes, where can I enter the VIN to check it out?

EDIT: Found online that those stickers in that 2011 are fake!
