I plan to build a platform for sleeping. I will use the vehicle for camping at kitesurfing venues, mountain biking spots and the ski slopes. It will need to be reliable! I can only find 3rd gens > 220k miles in my area. How long do these things really last reliably?
I'm a a new member but not new to 4Runners or Toyota's. We've had an 02 4runner that we've owned and driven for 15 years. I also have an 08 Tacoma that I've owned since new for the last 12!
Its time to upgrade the 02 4Runner. We are looking at the 5th gens and want to buy used. Any advice on things to be aware of? Right now things i'm aware of that i'm taking into consideration are the
-13->14 redesign of front bumper, headlights/taillights/gauges
-potential paint issues with white and blizzard pearl
Is there any type of buyers guide with general advice? I searched and saw some hits in the 3rd and 4th gen forums but not in the 5th.
Hi Everyone! Been lurking for awhile but not really posting. We got my wife a brand new 2015 4Runner 2WD LE back in 2016. We've enjoyed it but the ride has been rough. I consulted a buddy and his thoughts are it's the 20's and that I should swap out for some 17's. With just us it was fine when we hit a small crack in the road and it sent us to the moon with the awful ride. Now we have twin girls and it's waking them up constantly. I live in Memphis so mainly just hitting paved roads but like the aggressive look.
So I am rambling and going to get to the point. My wife is contemplating getting something bigger(Tahoe or Lexus SUV) and I see this as an opportunity to take the 4Runner as my own. I've been looking at trading in or selling on my own to get the TRD Pro or at least the LE 4WD. Really regret getting the 2WD but we will only be using 4WD very rarely to put our boat in the lake. What say you am I an idiot and just keep the 2WD and change wheels and tires? I just feel why put money into a 2WD?
Hey new user here and just got my first 4runner. 1998 v6 4x4 . 245k miles. The previous owner lifted it, tires/rims, camburg /king suspension, light bar, alarm system, stereo, cold air intake, exhaust, re-geared it, and put some type of 4 wheel drive locker system on it. Super excited about it, always wanted one. When I shift from park to either reverse or drive it jerk/shifts very hard even with e brake on. The shocks are very creaky/squeaky and are obnoxiously loud, I’m gonna grease them up but is there a way to tell if they’re shot?? Other than that it seems to run good. Thanks!
Just purchased 2008 4R V6 LTD 120K miles a week ago from Toyota dealership. 300 miles later CEL came on, P0022 code. Oil looks good (likely changed at dealership before purchase), filter is Toyota brand. Cleared code at AutoZone and have driven ~50 miles since then, no CEL but taking it to dealership tomorrow.
Just curious if anyone else has had this code pop. Thanks for creating thread!
