My plans are thusly:
Bilstein 6112s up front, 5160s in the back with some OME springs to replace the old air bags in the back. Debating between 16" procomp alloys, or something more sturdy, paired with either BFG KO2s or Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285/75/r16s.
I'm not seeing a lot about pro comp alloys on here based on a few google searches. I'd love to be wrong on that and get some good reading in though.

If you’re knowledgable and interested in helping a brother out, I posted in the “5th gen complaints” forum! I’m supposed to drive it home to Massachusetts this weekend so I’m praying it’s nothing major. Anyways I soon plan on adding some lift, wheels, tires and some other aftermarket parts. I tried to upload some pics but it failed, so just imagine a stock silver 5th gen sr5 and that’s what it looks like lol. Look forward to seeing your posts.

I just traded in my beloved 2017 Tacoma TRD OFF Road for a 2012 4Runner Limited. I had to accommodate for a second car seat and that just wasn't happening in my 4Door Taco. It will be missed, but I am loving the (new-to-me) 4runner so far!
Since I bought the new rig, I have been combing through the forum and finding all kinds of great mods. I just ordered Bilstein 5100's to level it out, picked up a few cans of plastidip to black out the chrome and ordered a set of SR5 rims with some 265/70r17 snow tires. I am now ready to drive the fam over the pass to Telluride for weekend ski trips. Super stoked!
Thanks for all of the great info, all!

I was wondering what everyone thought of this. Is this a car to stay away from? Anything I should be checking for. What about getting a Toyota factory undercoating for rust proofing...would that help here?
I also heard that some of the v6's crack the heads...is this something to look out for. How would I check.
Just looking for general guidance on whether I should stay away from this car or if it's not a huge deal.
Thanks for your help

If you get a 4runner from a toyota/ lexus dealership, see about buying the Plantinum plan. it covers non-wear & tear items for additional 65K miles. I got a whole host of things replaced just knowing that stuff breaks. you can also negotiate the price on that plan with ANY dealership. YOU don't need to buy the plan from the Toyota dealership you buy the car BUT I think you NEED to buy at the TIME of PURCHASE. I got over $10K of work done. I wished I got my 4Lo fix under the plan as I didn't realize it wasn't engaging. BUT just some food for thoughts.

Hey forum people, first post, first Toyota. My wife just got a 2020 Venture Edition. It’s blue with a sunroof and the front skid plate. I have a few questions:
Any advice on tips and tricks or “things to know” for new owners?
What are the biggest tires she can fit without rubbing or modifications? Gunmetal TRD 17” wheels.
What are areas of concern for these vehicles day to day?
What are areas of concern when wheeling on stock hardware?
What setting should she use in the snow? Other than putting it in 4 wheel drive.
Are there any “essential” modifications or popular ones?
Any advice on the back ladders I’ve seen around? She isn’t super tall so that will help her get to the roof basket.
Can I stand of the Yakima Megawarrior roof basket? I’m not particularly heavy or light but I weigh more than my wife does for sure.
What is it like to drive? Lol.
Cheers all.

Hi 👋
New member just here to maybe get some questions answered. I’m just a half wit shade tree mechanic who just bought my second 4Runner.
First one was a 06 sport v8 2wd, not really much interest in doing anything to it.
Then traded it for a 11 Ram 2500 and need driving diesels ever since.
Well we need a “beater”, putting too many miles on the 18 Ram 3500, 78k in less than 2 years, so we said if your buying a beater with high mileage and going to put high miles on it you buy the big T. We like the 4Runner so much we bought an 06 Sport V8 4wd. 😂
I think a little old lady owned it, 166k miles but runs like it’s only got 10k on it and the best part absolutely no signs of rust anywhere, not even surface rust on axels.
My wife a traveling nurse and we are not ones who like tourist traps. Our idea of sight seeing is dirt road, forest service roads are my favorite, and do get caught in some sticky situations. Also I’m do find tent camping all that fun. We live in an RV but tent camp. So I went out and bought a 12.5ft camper intech Flyer, so will be pulling that, 1200lbs.
So there’s my background.
The 4Runner did not come with a few options that I want to add. Auto headlights, I’m so used to having them I want them on this one. Went to Toyota parts today and was told I would be unable to upgrade because it’s probably not in the wiring harness, anyone know if that’s true?
That’s the biggest question I have right now and only upgrade to do besides leveling it out.
Thanks for reading
Bruce
I am planning on
