No brothers with tow straps, and not really sure about getting off the blacktop in four wheels. This is new terrain for me: four wheel vehicles, let alone 4X4. Have only ridden my bikes for a decade: for fun in the dirt, for groceries, for everything.
My truck search began with the thought that I'd buy a beater pickup—like a 95 Ranger—solely to have something to haul a surfboard to the beach. Recently moved in with the gf, she's close to the water, and I was sick of relying on buddies for surfing. But I'm newish to living in CA, there's exploring galore to be done within a 2-8 hour drive, and I started thinking something a bit more versatile would come in handy.
That got me on the 4Runner kick. Seemed a great rig that I could grow into: maybe a rooftop tent, excursions with the lady and her daughter, MX hitch on the back so I could have the bike on hand to get rowdy in far off places. Don't have much interest in hardcore offloading in a car—just doesn't seem as fun as what you can do on two wheels.
The 4X4 fantasies are: Would I head down to Baja and camp on the beach if I had a machine capable of that? Knowing me, probably. But it's not something I considered until I got on this kick, so maybe the internet put it there?
