New member here! Rode a stock '04 limited for 16 years, and just got a 2019 TRD Off-Road Premium during the year-end.

Looking to learn from the community, specifically as it relates to getting my truck some after market additions (rock sliders, bumpers, etc.). Running everything stock outside of the slight enhancements mentioned in my signature.

Great to meet ya!

Its a custom by Relentless Fabrication. First full front bumper for a 5th gen they ever made, like literally, they built it on my truck. They don't sell it anymore since they updated the bumper to a full replacement instead of cutting. If you want something that looks like this Demello made something similar.

Curious, since you're also in SoCal, if you have a 4wd. That's really the only other component of this, aside from wondering if $6500 is a wild sum to spend on the above. Am I going to long for 4wd ten minutes after buying this truck?
I do have a 4wd but honestly, it just depends how what kind of offroading you are going to do. I have done some trails with friends that have a 2wd and it works fine for them. It is southern California and there is a lot to be done with a 4wd but a 2wd would probably work fine if you don't want to offroad too heavily. I would personally lean to getting a 4wd so you have that option. In the end, it's really up to your budget and what you plan on doing.

Had my new to me 00 mounted with new shoes yesterday 265/75/16s and with no rubbing at full lock I now feel confident to start driving it more

With the search function and all the great info provided hopefully I dont need to start a new post but now I can if need be with Post #15

Pic from the other side of my new to me ride wearing new shoes, A new bow shackle receiver hitch adapter and a 7/8" recovery rope will have to suffice for now.

I hear ya—thanks for sharing.

I'm trying to whittle him down to 6K. Started at $7800, currently have him at $6600. Seems a fair price for what I fully understand is basically a work horse truck with a fun lifted look and vibe for cursing up to surf spots along the PCH. No plans to head into the wild anytime soon, and odds are that anytime I get near that stuff I'll have the bike on the back and can run circles around the beastliest of 4 wheel beasts.

Still scanning others. We shall see.

New guy

Hey guys and gals! Last Monday I was very excited to have bought my first 4runner. 2001 SR5 2wd. Looks great inside and out esp for 216k miles. They were asking 3500. Got them to 3k then I realized it needed a new exhaust so got it down to 2800.
Well I should have done my research like I normally do before a big purchase but I didn't and now found out about the frame rust. Well mine has it and bad. The usual spots in rear by muffler and gas tank. Frame shop here in Columbus quoted me 2400-2700 😢 🤦🏻*♂️ I've seen a lot of videos where people patched It up themselves so my question is.. Is there anyone on this forum that is in Ohio or near that I can pay with beer and cash that can fix it up for me? I don't know where else to go at this point. Glad to be a part of the community and hope to be able to drive this thing for a while and have some fun.

Justin

Hi everybody !
My name is Branislav, born in Serbia, living in Alaska.
Back home we have manual transmissions and diesel engines and here is hard to find 4wd like that.
Anyway, bought my first 4runner 1997 limited automatic 4wd. Very cheap, like dirt cheap, seriously. And beauty, it is 1 owner and 150k miles supper nice condition vehicle.

But I am rebuilding it from the scratch , I want to get it ready for over landing, camping trails etc.

Flushing all fluids(oil, tranny, diff, power steering, coolant, brake etc)
All belts, gasket covers etc
Replacing all suspension (here is where I need a help with choosing lift kit , I all ready picked upper control arm from total chaos )
Replacing leather seat covers
Front bumper with winch
Light bars
Rear swing bumper
Roof rack
Wheels and tires
Tundra brake upgrade
Manual locking hubs (maybe not sure yet, I need some explanation on this also)

Will be fun build and hope will run long time

I love working on cars, that is part of what I do for living

I read a lot of the posts here, watched youtube videos etc. , so I can say I am ready to get deeper into this.

I cant post a thread so for start if anyone can tell me what is:
1.The best value/quality 3inch lift kit ?
2.With all above would you go full heavy on springs or stay on medium?

I dont want 6k lift kit, pretty sure I dont need that lol
I dont want something bad , I want something good, that gets things done, and does not cost arm and leg.
Right now I am between OME and Toytec boss sys , and there is 1k min difference between them.
OME is ok found it on SRQfab site, and Toytec is bit price for shipping from their site but could not find them elsewhere.
Give me some advices I am always open on that.

Thank you for existing guys

It sounds like some fun. I don't know much about the specific pricing of 3rd gen 4runners in socal but definitely good luck on your search.

Hi Branislav, new member here as well but not new to 3rd gens.

I have the Camburg uniball uppers and enjoy them very much, I'm sure the Total Chaos pieces will give you the same satisfaction.

I personally do not like Toyota leather, my first 3rd gen came with fabric seats and they have made their way into the next two I have bought that came with leather. The only upside to the leather I can see is the lumbar adjustment.

I did the 231mm Tundra upgrade to my first 3rd gen and have done it to the next two as well, it really does make a difference on these trucks.
The Tundra brakes will affect wheel choices, I upgraded to a factory 17" wheel to clear the 231s on my first two, and am now running 17" Method wheels on my third. I ran BFG KO2s on the first two and am now using Toyo Open countrys on my current.

As far as lift I did quite a bit of research and ended up with Bilstein 5100 Tunrda front struts and 5100 Tundra extended rear shocks. On the front I am running Wheelers offroad T1 springs and am on the 2nd perch. In the rear I am using OME 890s. I purchased everything from Wheelers and it came out to less than $2000 if I remember correctly. My current 3rd gen came with Toytec front springs and rear shocks and I personally did not like the way they rode, so I swapped the Tundra stuff over. I go offroading once or twice a month in varied terrain and the Bilstein Tundra parts have yet to fail me.

These trucks are great and dont have to cost an arm and a leg to go have fun in.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
$6500 is a hefty amount for a 2wd 2.7
I am also in Socal and picked up a 2wd 2.7 with 180k on it for $1800 a few years ago, it was stock. I put suspension and other upgrades on it and was still under 5k. I was never impressed by the 2.7 even though it was a very reliable engine.
I picked up a stock 1997 sr5 4x4 v6 5-speed for $2700 in 2017 put new suspension under it and have never looked back. I recently wrecked that one and purchased another 1997 sr5 4x4 5-speed a few weeks ago, that one set me back $2900, it already had a lift and roof rack installed, I didnt care for the setup so I swapped the parts from my wrecked one onto it.
If you look around a bit, you can find good deals on these trucks, they shouldn't cost you that much unless you want them to.
I suggest looking on Offerup and Craigslist, you should find a wide variety for under $6500. Best of luck to you, these are fun trucks.

Hi all,

I just picked up a 2006 Sport 4x4 with the 4.0 v6 and 117k miles. Looking forward to a few simple mods and having fun with it.
