hey guys, new to the forum. Recently picked up a 2003 Limited 4wd 4runner from Copart down in florida and had it shipped here to Charlotte, NC.

The 2003, 130k miles, pretty immaculate interior, with "some " damage to the front end that I am working on fixing as we speak. All the parts are on order for the structural repairs, and was fortunate enough to find a complete 2005 car in a TN junkyard that I snagged the hood with a scoop, front bumper, fender and door from for pretty cheap in the same silver color

We are towing the car to my brothers bodyshop this saturday to get the body mount angle and radiator support welded in on the frame machine, rear door fixed from the dent that copart put in and fender apron straightened out. After that should be easy cruising with all the exterior body pieces to put on.

In the mean time I decided to tackle the timing belt, front main seal, water pump, spark plugs, valve covers and fluid changes since everything is completely apart.

I went a little overboard and already ordered everything short of a hi-lift jack for the overland build that my wife and I planned for this thing and half the stuff is already sitting in the garage.. here is a quick break down of everything going on this bad boy:

-prinsu full roof rack with 40" led bar
-smittybuilt overland roof top tent
-smittybuilt awning
-Beilstein 5100 2.5" lift with additional spacers to get rid of the rake
-TRD 17" wheel
-BFG K02 275/70-17 tires
-taillight guards
-flowmaster exhaust
-volant intake
-custom grills front grill build with raptor-style lights
-gobi rear ladder
-front bumper guard

I "think" that covers everything...at least for now hoping to have this thing completely set up by end of July so we can take our first adventure up to the NC mountains.

oh yea, forgot to mention, the current estimated cost of the rebuild, which includes maintenance parts which would have been done on a non-wrecked vehicle anyway is so far $7100 registered and titled The local market had these from 9500 and up in much worse shape and with same or higher mileage.

Total build cost so far is shaping up to be $13,600 (but done tell my wife )

also, not the first toyota in the family.. we have owned quite a few:

-'93 Camry - sold
-'02 Camry - still going
-'06 sequoia - still going
-'93 Supra (brothers car) still going strong
-'95 Supra (My weekend warrior) still going strong
-'13 Scion FRS (wifes car, less of a toyota, but nonetheless )

My "new" 01 Limited from my boss. 225k on the Odo. Its got Falken Wildpeak A/Ts mounted on Sequioa OEM 17"s.

Figured I'd join after lurking here for a month or two and seeing the amount of expertise and knowledge T4R members have haha. Good to be here.

Hi All!

I have always loved 3rd Gen 4Runners but was always more into cars than trucks so just ended up admiring T4Rs from afar. A recent move brought me to the southern California desert and I found off-roading paradise, so I finally convinced the wife to let me track down a desert run-about. Ended up with an ex-LAPD beach patrol 1996 4Runner. It's been missing out on a lot of TLC throughout its life so I've been spending my time and money doing basic maintenance on it to keep it on the road.

I definitely need a more family-friendly (i.e. reliable and wife-friendly) T4R so I'll be in the market for a 5th Gen soon, but this truck has given me the bug hardcore!

Howdy

So I’m mainly here because I’m going to look at an 04 on Saturday. High miles (230K). It’s a V8 Limited. Seller says his mechanic told him “a solenoid value was sticking when under load so the transmission goes into some sort of limp mode making towing difficult. Otherwise it’s fine and runs well”. Could I be walking into a hornets nest? Any other things I should look at? Price seems fair. Hopefully I’ll be here for more knowledge after, right now I need the experts help on making this purchase. Problem areas etc.

Thanks!

I like that style better. But it’s so hard to find one that’s not rusted to hell up here in the northeast.
