2018 SR5 4WD (Real Father)

LOOOOOONG time lurker. Have been obsessed with 4runners since my uncles had them when i was a kid. One had black and the other red. 1992's jacked up with KC Lights to boot.

2 years ago the wife (equally as obsessed) and I nabbed a Brand Spankin New off the lot 2018 SR5. Came stock with about 4 miles. Dealer had us driving away with complimentary OEM all weather floor mat + Trunk mat and some (Board Running 4RNR - Toyota (PT938-89200) running boards. They have done wonders for what i have used them for.

Did great for 1 kid.

Does amaizing for 2 now.

I did a few immediate upgrades - which i can go into at a later time.

Getting a NEW suspension UPGRADE thrown in next week (Thank you T4R Forums!)

Looking forward to sharing and gaining some experience.

Greetings from Baton Rouge.
The long short is I picked up a 97 limited about 5 years ago, cheap, because I needed to get out from under some bills while I go back to school and not because I was a Toyota fan. Fast forward, my limited is at 225k miles and going strong...and I am left wondering why I had snubbed my nose at Toyotas in the past, I truley like my 4runner.

New Member and New 4Runner Owner

Hello from Southern California - took the plunge and traded in my boring and economical 2018 RAV4 for a 2020 4Runner TRP ORP. Looking forward to finally getting my 4Runner off road, on trails, on campsites and then bugging everyone else here about it when I do. Catch everyone on the other side once this pandemic is over

Dipstick reads NOTHING despite me knowing there's oil in there!

Have a 2005 Limited, currently encountered a weird, critical issue I can't find anywhere in here.

Wanted to check my oil yesterday, dipstick read completely dry. Weird because it doesn't leak it burn oil, and haven't had to add oil to it between changes in the 200k miles I've owned it (now at 280+k)
Tried twisting it, retaining it, reinserting, multiple times. Nothing, dry as a bone. Yes, it goes all the way in.
So I add a quart. Still no reading. Idled several minutes. Tried all the dipstick manipulations again. Nothing. Weird.
Add quart #2, with hesitation. Still no reading. Idled several minutes. Tried all the dipstick manipulations again. Nothing. Dry as a bone. Have to drive to sons place 200 miles away..... Getting confused and upset. Idle a few more minutes. Still NOTHING.
So I add a 3rd quart. You guessed it, did all the same things STILL NOTHING. I absolutely have to get going, so figuring I have a few qts in there I do my drive. No lights on dash, make it there, no temp fluctuations. But a nice oil must in back of the vehicle.
So I decide to drain my oil, and add the 6.6 it takes, but only 3 quarts come out when I remove the plug... That's where I am right now... Any ideas/thoughts? I'm at my parents, with no 12mm socket to remove the forms to change the filter...

Any oil leaks under your car? If you added 2 quarts and only got 3 out, seems like you had a pretty catastrophic leak.

Just got rid of the Tacoma for an 06 sport 4x4 with 144k, first thing I did was got the xreas for some bilsteins and 2.5” lift, new cv’s, spark plugs, wheels, and tint. Just need to find a better spot for the cb antenna (back bumper firestik mount with ground wire to chassis isn’t cutting it). That and front/rear diff and xfer case fluid swap. Hope this site is as good as Tacomaworld.....

newbie

Hi Everyone

I have decided i want a 4runner for some off road activities and travel to hiking spots. I found a 2010 with 146K on it for a good deal. My idea to to put a 3" lift, wheels tires and maybe some suspension items. I can handle and want to do the work myself. Is there anything I should watch out for on this year?

Thanks
