Welcome, what color ya get?

Hey all, very new to this forum and 4runners in general, any help will be appreciated. I’m looking at an 04 v8 sport and I’m very confused on the 4WD/AWD system. I know it uses a center differential lock but does that mean it’s locking both the front and rear diffs?

Ive had a 4th gen for a few years now and have been lurking here awhile. I just bought a 3rd gen and am working on it when I have time. It’s got some weird issues I’m hoping someone on here can help me track down.

More info on the 4Runner. 1999 Limited 4wd. There’s some front end damage but it runs and drives straight. I’m having an issue where the
Auto transmission gear indicator on the dash lights up two gears at a time. If in R, the D lights up faintly. If in D, the L lights up faintly. If in L, the D lights up faintly.

I’ve pulled the neutral safety switch and cleaned the connections internally and externally. I pulled the gear selector and replaced the 4 blue bushings. I replaced the cluster as well.

I’m starting to think there may be an electrical short somewhere in the harness. Or I’m not properly adjusting the shift linkage and NSS properly and it’s in between gears.

I’m hoping there’s someone that can point me in the right direction. Thank you!

I have a 1999 4Runner Limited, which replaced my 98 5 speed SR5.

The 98 was a good truck, but was unfortunately lost to black ice and an Audi SUV in South Dakota.

The 99 Limited needs some work. Covid and working from home have left me neglecting it.

But now winter is quickly approaching and it's time to rectify issues before the snow falls.

It's got a clunking in the front end and handles like a bag of rocks.

I also spent what feels like 14 years installing a TBU, which I finally bled after months of troubleshooting.

The truck is fairly rust free for a truck that's been in Minnesota, so it's time to rust proof it.

But before I can do that, I'll need to fix the suspension.

To do so, I have a 4Runner specific 5100's and a set of 906s ready to install.

Unfortunately, to complete this install, it looks like I need front springs and strut mounts.
