5th Gen glove box amp install
I have a very specific question and am not sure how to post 15 other useful replies before I can ask my question, so here goes nothing.
Just got a 2023 Off Road Premium and the stereo system is a definite upgrade need. Since I don't own the vehicle until I pay it off, I don't want to make to many massive modifications. Adding these Kicker speaker set seems pretty non-intrusive but without an amp they will probably be underwhelming. I want to keep the stock head unit, which means using low level speaker inputs.
From my understanding low level inputs should be done close to the source (head unit). So I come across a video of someone installing a tiny amp in their glove box. After measuring out the glove box, I think a much larger amp could be mounted in there, maybe upside down on the top to not interfere with the air filter compartment. Just cut a hole for a gromet in the side of the glove compartment flap. I could probably get a replacement if ever needed. Other than that, running some power from the battery to behind the steroe and through the gromet doesn't seem very intrusive either.
Thoughts?

New Member / 23 SR5 Premium / Extended Warranty inquiries
So back in November I finally got the 4runner of my dreams ! Now I have done a couple small mods- windows tinted, and a different front end. I am wanting to lift my truck up 3-6 inches and put some wheels and tires on it. But after speaking with multiple workers/managers at the dealership in conclusion if I were to life my truck it would void the warranty through the manufacturer and the extended (I bought every warranty they offered). So I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on if putting aftermarket parts like a lift and tires would void the warranty i purchased. Or even putting a cold air intake , or new exhaust system because I want it to rumble. Last one is car audio ? If took it to best buy and had the, install a sound system? Hope this makes sense and thanks for taking time to read this- any help is appreciated I am a noob and have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever

Have you looked into OEM Audio Plus? It looks like everything is plug and play and they even have an under-seat amp that works with the stock head unit.

Hilux Surf Canadian Member
Hi from Edmonton!
2005 Hilux Surf SSR-X 20th anniversary
I upgraded from a JDM rav4 to the Hilux surf this month. I purchased the Surf in December and received it on the 20th of March.
133,000km.
The unit is not as clean as the pictures would suggest. I will do a paint correction in May, paint the chrome trim, fix a dent, and respray the driver's door and both bumpers. There is minimal surface rust underneath. I will break out my wire wheels and get most off before spraying and undercoating.
To pass the OPI, I had to wire in DRLs (through the fog lights), install new idler pulleys, AT tensioner, and a serpentine belt, and replace the battery. Everything else was good to go.
I spent the better part of Saturday stripping the head unit and all of the wiring out (I did leave the ETC, though... cause you know JDM). I installed a new rear backup camera and front camera and a 13-inch android 11 head unit with wireless car play.
I have purchased new TRD wheels paired with 285/70/17 AT rubber. The Pro-Comp lift kit is ok. I want to replace it with Bilstein 5100s paired with OME springs. I am replacing the front UCA next week and adding an adjustable track bar.
I need to play around with the 4x4 system when I drop all the fluids next week. I have the typical blinking 4x4/diff lights when trying to go into 4hi. I assume the actuators are gummed up.
When I turn the ignition on (not turning the engine over), I have what appears to be a continuous fault beeping coming from under the car. Does anyone know what that's about?
Anyways, Here's my rig. Happy to be here.

New guy from NorCal
Finally picked up my 5th Gen yesterday, the dealer messaged me late Monday that it arrived so I went and picked it up Yesterday. Reserved it about a month ago so the wait wasn't to long but nonetheless waiting sucks... I set out trying to locate a specific 4Runner, I wanted Lunar Rock with KDSS without dealer added markup, but every single dealer I called either had it pre-sold or a massive markup on it. I finally got a response from one dealer that had one in on the ship that wasn't presold but had $4k markup, thankfully I was able to negotiate the markup off the deal and reserved the 4R. I am doing my research on what lift I want but plan to pull the trigger on it soon. Look forward to learning a lot about this 4R and others experiences thru the forum.

Greetings from North Alabama
I will be honest, I don't actually own a 4Runner....yet. I've been doing a lot of research on them before I buy. Mainly looking for a used one for camping/Overlanding but would also be a daily driver. I only work 5 miles from home and my local town is just 15 minutes away so I dont put a lot of miles on a vehicle.
Of course any suggestions for a newbie would be appreciated. Links to threads here, etc. I literally just made an account and signed up.
Anyway, wanted to say hello to anyone and everyone here.

Hi,
I have been a life long Ford guy and I just bought my first Toyota 4Runner. I like to work on my vehicles myself and with my friends and family. A bit of a weekend worrier.
I am currently living in SoCal and have been exploring the trails more so it was time to get a 4Runner. I am glad this community is here and so active. I am a total noob when it comes to Toyotas and I am hoping that you all can share your knowledge and experience with me.
One of the things that drew me to the 4Runner is its reputation for being a great platform for modifications. I am excited to learn about different upgrades and mods that I can do to make my 4Runner even more capable on the trails.
I look forward to being a part of this community and sharing my experiences with my 4Runner. If anyone has any tips or advice for a new 4Runner owner, I would love to hear them.
Thanks!
Joe

Howdy guys (and maybe gals, though most other forums I visit don’t have many gals). Just got my first 4Runner, a silver 2011 Limited with 102k miles on it. Appears to have been meticulously maintained, and garage kept without a doubt. Had her about a week or so, coming from a newer car the first thing I wanted was all LED lighting so I did everything except the headlights, those will be retrofitted soon with Morimoto projectors in factory housings, possibly a 2014+ swap front end idk. After that on the list will be a mild Bilstein 5100 lift (did that to my last F150, they ride so well) and some 285/70R17 tires on 8.5” wheels. The 4runner looks good, but the Limited 20” wheel fitment leaves a lot to be desired. Anyways, I wanted a vehicle that will last me the next 10+ years, so that’s what brought me here. Had a 2020 Mustang GT last, and the F150 was before that. Still a Ford guy at heart, but you can’t argue with Toyota reliability. Looks like an active forum, and I look forward to contributing!

Howdy, got my first 4runner about 6 months ago, after searching for the right one for a few years. 99 limited 4x4. Purchased from a good friend after he got into a wreck and upgraded to a 5th gen. It had 275k miles on it, but was immaculate before the accident. Im a welder and have a lot of hookups in the automotive industry. I had always been a fan of this rig, so when the opportunity came up to acquire it I jumped on it. The wreck was cosmetic, and I was able to get it fixed with minimal cost, with doing a lot of the work myself. upgraded the wheels and tires, and its just like new. Ive put around 4000 miles on it since I bought it, and I love it. Ive done some of the maintenance to get it back up to where I am comfortable driving it anywhere, and am now just chasing down some of the more menial/ annoying things. looking forward to another few hundred thousand miles!

Back Again!
Years ago I owned a V6 2nd Gen 4WD, which I loved. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of selling it. However, this past summer I rectified my mistake and bought a V8 4th Gen 4WD. It was like coming home again.
Every nitpick I that might have had with my old 4Runner had been fixed. The old one was a bit pokey getting up to highway speed? This one has more than enough get-up-and-go. The old one was just a bit cramped in the backseat? This one has more room. My only regret was not buying one new when I had the chance.
