Glad to meet another Casita guy! I may have some questions for you as I try to get geared up for summer. We just picked up the trailer last August so I've got a lot to learn.
Thanks!

Just bought a 4runner and loving it

I recently acquired a 1994 toyota 4runner sr5 with a 5 speed and 4wd. It's got 254k on the clock and counting since I'm going to be driving it almost every day.

The truck has some minor issues but none of which affect drivability.

Current mods in mind include:

Ome 2" lift
31x10.5 A/T or 32x11.5 A/T tires
I heard they have a eBay or Chinese snorkel that's cheaper?
All new steering up front (ball joints, tie rods and such)
A tune up since I'm told it was sitting for a while.
Electric fans
A brush guard (something under $500)
More recovery equipment

And so on lol.

It's my overland/bug out project as of now.

I have plenty of questions but I'll keep it simply.

They sell steering replacement kits online for very reasonable prices but if I've learned anything from them. My miata hated them and I never got them again. Is it worth it for the runners? Also with the old man emu lift, is there anything required to get or replace? I'd love to purchase the kit and install of without any cv joint issue or ball joints breaking. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated

Hey I also just bought a 94 4runner and joined this forum. It's a 94 4runner with the 3.0 V6, it's an auto transmission. Just put 33x12.5r15 mud terrains on it, with stock ride height. Bought a roof rack, an overlanding vehicle is kind of the plan. It has 127k, I picked it up for $900 and knew it had a really bad oil leak. Pulled out the trans and did the rear main seal. But to my dismay once put back together, it still leaks. It looks to be coming from the drivers side rear block. No oil in coolant or anything, but is it possible for a bad head gasket in that area to leak alot of oil? I'll have to post pics later!

Back again. Also I don't believe it to be a valve cover gasket. The majority of the oil seems to be in between the block and head. After driving it within half an hour there's an oil spot probably about 12x12. It's big. I read somewhere there's an oil passage back there? I think it's the head gasket but would like some insight.

Also btw what is the best way to post pics?

Welcome,
Pressure wash the rear of the engine and run it..... try to find the leak with a small flashlight. may be a valve cover gasket. doubt it's a head gasket. ot maybe something that hooks to the rear of the engine.
I'm still banking on the valve cover gasket

Yep, thanks Joe! I haven't joined that other forum yet. I'll check out ArizonEileen's CD intro, thanks for the tip. I'll be posting some questions on that forum in the next day or so.

Now on to a 4Runner question. While my 4R pulls the Casita pretty well, I'm thinking that down the road I might want to move up, tow vehicle wise. Curious about the 8 cyl 4Runners as far as what I might gain and/or lose by going to one.
Thanks!
Bill

Hi, everyone. I've been lurking and reading for a few months and finally decided to register and post. I'm a proud owner of a 2002 with 226,000 miles on the odometer and a few months ago bought a 2016 Limited 4WD to boot. Tons of great information here and I look forward to learning a lot more. Hopefully I can contribute sometime in the future. Cheers!

For all new members, you can say hi here, please dont litter other threads

Hi All
Just got a 2010 SR5 premium pkg with 100,000km. I'm located in Calgary, Canada. Traded in a Volkswagen Tiguan!
Super excited for the 4Runner. Tonight it got a full iron x/clay bar treatment.
My current concerns are some hatch around the rear hatch emblem I've emailed the dealer I bought it from - but I don't think they're gonna be very helpful. Any advice for what I should do?! It does have me very worried.
This place is awesome for info!

I've never owned a 8cyl T4R..... while this does a good job my preference is a full size pickup with a cap for storage....just for your reference your approx weight on the 17' Casita SD is about 450 lbs+/- on the tongue and pretty close to 3200 to 3500 lbs when loaded up ready to go. many people on that forum tow with the exact truck you have and it does a fine job but my Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 doesn't even know it's back there and while it's not needed i still put a WDH back there for a really comfortable ride....stabilizer bar is definitely needed in my opinion..... get that trailer porpoising no matter what size tow you have and you will realize it's cheap insurance ($35)
When i'm towing that with the T4R I am very comfortable, even without a WDH.... It's very up to the job but if yours is like mine with stock springs i get about a 1" drop
