Welcome, PartsMonkey!
That's not bad for MPG! I still have yet to figure mine out. It's been in my garage for the past couple weeks being worked on. I've read some guys on here are getting close to 25-26 MPG on the highway! That's awesome, because I have a friend who has a 93' Jeep XJ and he gets 11.5, on a good day!

Hi All,
Just bought my first 4Runner, a 2001 SR5 V6 3.4 in great condition. It's not only my first 4Runner, but also my first 4x4! Currently in Santiago, Chile, I'm planning to travel South America in the coming months and I think I just bought the perfect vehicle for the trip!
I'm extremely happy to have found this forum as I'm looking to do some modifications prior to the trip.
Big thanks to everybody contributing, already found some great info!

Hey All,
Really great site and very informative for a total noob to the Toyota Family. I am a week into my new to me 2007 SR5 2WD 4Runner. It has 146k miles and is in impressive condition in comparison to all of the other used vehicles I have had.
I'm really looking for any tips or advice on where to start with maintenance and checking things out. I haven't noticed any issues and I have to say this truck is very clean inside and out with not a speck of leaks anywhere. Any thoughts or advice would be most appreciated.

Hey all,
I've already posted in the stockers thread, so I figured it would be polite to give a formal "howdy".... so, Howdy!
2016 Trail Edition Premium owner here. 2nd Toyota I've ever owned. Since everyone knows what a stock '16 TEP looks like, here's a pick of my 1st Toy circa 1990! Back in those days, you could probably find me tooling down a dry river bottom on a Friday night with a cold beer between my legs. Certainly not politically correct these days; but, oh how I miss being young sometimes

Hi all,
New member here from Victoria, British Columbia. My rig is a 1996 Hilux Surf with the 3.4 litre engine which I very recently imported from Japan.
Plan is to use for fishing, camping and treking on forestry roads.
I look forward to learning from fellow members and contirbuting when I can.
Cheers,
Ben

My first 4Runner
Greetings all! Happy to introduce myself as a new owner of a 2001 4WD SR5 4runner with 150K miles. I have some past experience with 4runners as my Dad has two, a 1995 SR5 4WD and a 2007 Limited 4WD V8. Both are fine SUVs, but I really like my 3rd gen a bit more than those.
Sometimes I get asked by my friends why I bought an older SUV. Here are the reasons I give, why I bought myself a 3rd gen:
- Needed a 4WD to access mountain property I own in Cashiers NC. The gravel road to it is steep in some parts. 2WD trucks & SUVs were not up to the task, but my Dad's 2nd gen 1995 4WD made it with ease.
- I live in Atlanta, so the 4WD needed to be decent on the highway for the drive to and from Cashiers. The 3rd gen is very capable in that regard, no problems maintaining 75-80 mph. (The improvement Toyota made from 2nd to 3rd gen is remarkable in terms of the power and drivability, is night and day.)
- Under $8K. The 4WD is not going be a primary driver for either my wife or myself, so my budget for a 3rd car was not very big.
- I have two kids, 2 & 8 years, so safety was another big factor. This led me to limit my 3rd gen selection to the 99-02s.
- It fits nicely in my tight 2-car garage. Being less than 70" wide was a big factor.
- Since we drive to Southwest FL a few times each year, I wanted something that is not likely to leave me on the side of the road in need of a tow truck (far from a Toyota dealership). I felt a properly maintained 4Runner having under 250K miles will not leave me stranded, especially if given some preventative maintenance.
- Other homeowners near my NC property use the same gravel road so I didn't want to tear it up with an overweight 4WD. I figured lighter = better in that regard.
- Fuel economy was important as well, and the 4Runner is better than most other 4WD SUVs in my price range.
Anyways, I’ll post my plans for it later, which include some much needed maintenance and aesthetic work to make it more appealing to my wife. I do not plan on 'building' it past OEM, but it is in serious need of a 'refresh/rehab' to keep it from beginning to have some major problems.

Just took a trip from the Atlanta area to the Augusta area and back. Filled up before leaving. Did 196.1 miles on the way out and filled back up with 7.975 gallons for 24.589 MPG. Haven't filled back up since returning.
To say the least I am pleased.

New to me 4runner..
I had a 2006 Jetta TDI that I purchased earlier this year that I have had nothing but problems with (just got the Jetta because it was economical and it was amazing on gas). The dealership I bought the Jetta from gave me what I paid for the car in trade in value (super thankful for that) towards a 2004, black, 4wd 4runner. I have always wanted a 4runner and felt like now was as good as time as any to get into one. I already enjoy it and its a huge change from the Jetta. I am hoping it will be just as reliable as a Tundra I had years ago.
I am getting a set of 265/70/17 BFG KO2's put on later today and ordering the Daystar kit in the next couple weeks.
I do have one question. I may end up ordering a Demello front bumper, but before I do that I really would like to repair a cosmetic issue with my current front bumper and am curious what part I may need. I -THINK- I may just need a bumper cover (I really want to get rid of the bar anyways), but am wondering if I would need a full bumper replacement. The part peeled back doesn't seem like its plastic, it feels like a pretty deep gouge and may of effected the material underneath. I am wondering if I can just break off this piece and cover it with the cover or what my option(s) could be.
The damage I am talking about is in the center of the picture. I can get a better picture if need be (this is just a picture I grabbed from the dealers website).
I have learned a lot from this forum already and look forward to continuing to learn from you guys! Thanks!

Introduction
First post here, though I have been reading a lot. I have a 2006 4Runner AWD V8, silver. I am a big Toyota fan and this is my 4th 4Runner. But this will be the first one I have ever done any mods to. My vehicle before this was a 2007 Tundra with a 5" lift, aftermarket wheels and tires and some other small things. I hope to learn here and hopefully contribute as I progress through my mods.
Cheers
Dan

Hi, I just got my first 4Runner it is a 2015 limited, so far a have tinted the front windows 35% and added a K&N intake.
I have previously owned 2 different Toyota pickups and loved them.
My fist was an 87 extra cab and the other was my 4wheeling truck it was a 83 long box with 34's

New to the Forum new owner in CO
Just picked up my 97 T4R and am loving it have had my eye on this one for a month and finally got to drive it home today. Not my first T4R tho, my first car was a 1989 SR5 with detachable roof and inline four and I've just wanted another ever since my sister had an accident in it 2 years after I bought it. So just been bouncing from car to car so this time that I was in the market I made sure to look for the one I wanted. I'm excited to meet and hear all your stories about your babies and bounce ideas off you guys on how to make this 3rd Gen a beast! Will post pictures tomorrow when I have some sunlight also don't have a name for it yet so any ideas you may have Let me know gonna get a feel for her before I decide.
