New guy from RI saying hi.

There's some great looking rigs here!

I'm thinking of buying one, hopefully soon. I'm kind of a Jeep guy, but I decided I don't want a JK, and want to se what happens with the JL over the next few years before jumping on one of those.

I want something rugged, reliable, and with real offroad capability. I like to camp and mountainbike, and I think the 4R will be great for that, what with all the space inside for gear.

Originally I was also looking at the new Taco TRD, but I really don't need a truck, the SUV suits me better, and from what I've read that new 3.5L is kind of a turd with the auto. I've read a LOT of "...the 4.0 was better..." posts.

Anyway, I'll be lurking around, and will prob be asking a lot of questions. Thanks in advance!

New in NC

My 1st vehicle was a 89 Toyota pickup. Every vehicle since has been judged off of it's reliability. Few have stood up to the test. It had a 3" lift, 33's, and a rear locker. A couple Jeep's later I ended up lifting an xj but longed for more power and comfort for my family. My 03 V8 Limited 4runner fits the bill. With 244k on the clock I'm hoping the legendary Toyota reliability holds true.

New owner here from Southern New Hampshire. Just took delivery of my 2016 4Runner TRD Pro last week. Came with N-Fab nerf step bars, some unknown brand bull bar with Hella spot lights and it even has a sunroof installed (by original dealer at 7 miles).

I purchased this because my lifestyle demands something with utility and the roads are hit or miss during the winter since I live in a small town, so we needed something that was worthy of New England weather. My wife and I also plan to do some light overlanding across the region and eventually across the United States. I plan on purchasing a Gobi Stealth rack this week. Won't need it til spring/summer, but I've been reading up on it and have found it may be a stretch to get it by then.

Anyways, a few pics..

RSblood that’s a sweet rig! I’m jealous of the snow wheeling. Hopefully I’ll get to do a little this year in NC.

4th Gen from IL : Newbie Hello

Excellent forum, looking to contribute to the forum through my years of acquired knowledge of owning/operating a 4th Gen T4R. This is my second 4Runner (3rd Gen) and looking forward to owning & building more!

Since it is -degrees out here in IL, I thought I would post a pic of me with my rig during warmer times... on the beach... North Carolina.

I haul 3k + with my rig and have extensive knowledge in hauling flatland, mountains, etc. I take it offroad as well as occasionally mall crawl. Would like to share what I have learned so far!

Hello from the PNW

Hello everyone, great forum! I referred here extensively during the last 3 months while I narrowed down and ultimately chose a 5th Gen 4Runner as my long distance camping and road-tripping rig.
I've owned a Tacoma and Tundra as my only other Toyotas.
I owned a '12 Pathfinder (last of the body on frame variants), I enjoyed the truck but ultimately looked for something with better reliability and aftermarket support, better looks, better owner forums ;-) etc.. which is what lead me to the 4Runner.

Looking forward to learning a lot from everyone here.

Hey Chris - I'm running a mild 265/70/17 on TRD wheels. I run a mild lift with Bilstein 5100's to accommodate the larger wheel. The 5100's are adjustable so I run the fronts on the second setting. Helps level out the traditional 4Runner front end droop. For hauling I have manual airbags in the rears.

Checking in from Luray, Virginia

Hello All!

We just bought our 5th gen 4runner. We love it so far. Already changed the rims with less than 1k miles. Looking forward to a lot more mods. I've spent most of my time in the Jeep world but to be honest their is no comparison to this 4runner. Excited to be part of the forum....looks like a TON of information on here.

I tried attaching a photo but it kept showing upside down.....

Me and my 98.

Greetings peeps. I've been lurking on & off for almost 2 yrs. I have a 98 Desert Dune SR5 4x4. With 212,6xx miles . She runs great. I have a Toytech 3" with rear upr/lwr CA's getting ready to go on. She's at the stealers right now getting a slew of work done.

I am almost 47 yrs old and a Mechanical Engineer by trade. My other passion is motorcycles. I now have 5 of them . LOL I've been a back yard mechanic for over 30 yrs. Now I'm too old and arthritic to do any work that requires me to roll around on the ground. OUCHY. LOL.

Look forward to getting to all of you. Happy New Year and God Bless Y'all. Oh. Btw. I do have my Gallery set up that has ALLLL the stats written out.

Gen3 SR5

Well, picked up a 99 4Runner yesterday that was completely dead. Had a ECU that wasn’t talking to the motor, so no fuel or spark. Once I get that replaced, hoping to do a tuneup, clean the intake and fuel system. Hopefully that’s all it needs!

Picked up a 2018 TRD Off Road Premium the week before Christmas. Its my first Toyota - and first SUV! I've always owned VWs and Audis, which are small and lowered - so this has been quite the change. I am excited about having a car that has reliability beyond 120k miles.

I love the 4Runner so far, but I must admit that I'm a bit surprised at the lack of some of the features of the premium. Maybe I've been spoiled with an Audi, and my husbands Denali. The speakers, for one, are awful. I'm no audiophile, but I think the sound quality is terrible. So I'm already looking to upgrade the speakers (and install remote start) on my 4R before my first car payment!

I did get (what I think is) a smoking deal on my 2018, though, so I don't feel as guilty about spending a few (thousand) bucks so soon.

I've already ordered the TRD grille and blacked out bumper cover- although, now the non-TRD grill is growing on me with the blacked out bumper cover, only. So I'm on the fence whether to actually use the TRD grille or resell it.

Also ordered a Gobi stealth rack without the rise. Rise or no rise?! Man was that tough decision! I plan on eventually mounting a light bar, which made the decision even harder!

Lastly, I'm getting the windows tinted a bit darker all around (I'm in Baltimore ) and having a Fortin remote start installed that will work with my G key. I kinda like having everything on one key fob!
Then I have to wait for Santa and my Xmas bonus to get some new wheels and tires. I'm really digging the grey TRD wheels on the white 4runners.

Jeez - I still have 8 posts to go before I hit 15. So, it all started in a little town in Baltimore. It was a starry night, and my dad had already kicked back a few... my mom was wearing that irresistible moo-moo, the one with the ruffled collar.
