I've accumulated 3 first gens over the past couple of years and have used this site often to figure out things that the FSM wasn't clear about. I feel like I have enough 'practice' to contribute and help others and decided it was about time I joined.
I have a 1989 DLX 22RE (my first one) that I got burned on - the PO had 'redneck engineered' things that I wasn't educated enough to look for (most of which have been corrected by me now). I currently have a low compression issue on cylinder #1 (probably a valve seal) and have some redneck body work that needs to be corrected on it.
My 2nd one is a 1987 SR5 22RE with just under 400k on it (I've put the last 50k on it myself). It needs body/paint work (currently running 'urban camouflage'), some interior work and a new LSPV. It came with 31X10.5 mud terrains, heavy welded winch bumpers (both probably too heavy for a tired 22RE) and it's own share of redneck wiring. This one is my DD and 'woods truck', and has knocked down it's share of small trees and carried a few deer out of the woods to the processor.
My 3rd one (or, should I say, my wife's) is a 1986 22RTE with an aftermarket turbo (10 psi instead of 7 stock) that had new paint and most of a new interior when we got it. They had taken the door panels (turbos had a special edition panel) and seats to have them redone and the upholstery shop lost the door pulls and handle bezels (I've been looking for over a year for replacements, but they're rare as can be). The digital dash is nice but a bit of a PITA - the FSMs have NO info on diagnosing issues with it. The fuel gauge doesn't work, but I have a digital aftermarket one that will do the job until I can figure it out. Once we have it in the condition we want it in, this one will go to the USVI for our 'island car'.
The 87 and 86 both have SoftToppers - we really like them.
