2011 4runner trail

Hi everyone! Always lurked this website but finally couldn't find a thread that fit my issue. Where do I post the issue I'm having without bothering too many people?

Noob Intro

A couple of days ago I pulled the trigger on an old Gen3 -'02 Limited, 188K for $1700. Picking it up early next week sometime (Thank you AAA Plus, 100 mile towing!) Been on the lookout for a while for a good value in reasonable condition to restore to driving condition.

This one has been sitting for a while with a broken alternator belt, due to a seized alternator bearing. Bearing was freed with penetrating oil, but it's still really stiff in one spot. Put a good battery in it and it started right up and the engine sounded excellent. Ran it up and down the street briefly, seemed to drive fine, though the brake calipers are rather stiff. Tree branch fell on it while it was sitting, and dented the roof, broke the rear roof rack cross-beam. Will need to deal with that for ski racks and/or Thule box. Glass is all good and the hatch opens though, so fine by me!

I've already ordered a Denso rebuilt alternator and all belts from Rock Auto. Been looking at the Tundra brake upgrade, which I'll do if the front brakes don't loosen up, or I need to replace the rotors. One of my primary uses is towing, mostly 1100 pound boat trailers, with the occasional 3500 pounder (braked). So a brake upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea if I have to spend $$ there. It's also straight piped, which needs to change! It actually sounds pretty good, but every suburban soccer mom in town will be hollering at me to slow down, even at 15 MPH. Ask me how I know

Other than that, it needs fluids & filters of course, the ACC panel redone, a thorough detailing inside and out. Might be some sort of taillight issue. Frame & underbody is relatively decent for a 17 y.o. Massachusetts truck, but I'm looking at rust control options, leaning towards Fluid Filming it a couple of times before next winter.

Once it's running and sorted, I'll keep my eyes open for a used SnoWay 22 7 1/2' plow, just to do my own driveway. This will primarily be a working truck for me, light towing & bit of light plowing. It joins a stable consisting of a couple of Saabs ('03 sedan & '02 convertible) and an '04 turbo Miata. The Saab convertible might go, as that's a lot of cars for just my college-aged daughter and I! I do like having a multitude of tools (vehicles), to choose the right one for a specific need!

First 4Runner

Hi folks, this is my first post. I’ve wanted a 4Runner since I was much younger. I just picked up a 4th gen limited and thought this would be a good place to learn more about the vehicle. So, one down and fourteen to go!

Been a lurker for a while. Bought a '16 TRD pro new and have 50k on it so far. Looks better than it did on delivery.

Stolen F250 me a very nice 4runner. very happy camper!

Hello everyone I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My (older) 2004 F250 that I babied and drove like an old man was stolen from my wifes workplace a month ago. it only had 120k on it and I put a lot of money into it. Insurance raped me on the pay out and i thought I would need a loan to get anything remotely close to a comp. Then....
I really really wanted a 4 runner. night and day scouring FB/Craigslist/local dealers to find one I could afford that didn't already have 250k miles on it or cost 20k plus. I got lucky.
A disabled man posted his for sale. 2006. 120k miles. V8 edition with full maint. records done by his local toyota dealership, including timing belt change at 90k. new tires with less than 6k miles on them. I was the first person to tell him i would buy it but lived outside his city. I told him, no haggle. i will give you full price. He said ok but it would be 36 hours before I could get to him. He was bombarded by calls from others that wanted to outbid me, but this kind old man stuck by his word and waited for me to arrive. I purchased his rig for (in my opinion) a humble sum of 9k even. I am a family man but have been sucked into the excitement of having a new toy I can share with my family and kids. I look forward to reading everyone's posts and participating where I can. Thanks!

Hey guys. Been lurking for some time now while I’ve been reading everything possible before buying my first 4Runner. Still shopping for a 4th gen or the right 3rd gen. I’m coming from primarily owning diesels and fast cars. But with as much as I like the outdoors and also an avid shooter, I figure a 4Runner is right up my alley. Hope to contribute soon
