New kid on the block

I bought a black 2018 TRD OF back in Oct. I work in Iraq so I only get a few months a year to enjoy my new toy. Just getting ideas, do's and dont's from you all.

Hi all!

Just picked up my new to me 2008 4Runner SR5 yesterday after trading in my 2014 Corolla. I'm glad to finally be done with a car and will try to take full advantage of the capabilities of the 4Runner!

New Guy Checks In

Howdy Y'all. Two weeks ago I ordered my first 4Runner. This will be my 4th 4x4 but the first really dedicated more to play than work. My work vehicle is a 4x4 F-350 so the 4Runner is going to be very different.

Thanks to all the information I found on this forum, I was able to negotiate what I thought was a pretty good deal. I paid $90 over invoice on a special order. I guess you folks can let me know whether or not that's a good deal.

As the name implies, I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and, except for 10 years in the Navy, have basically my entire life. Most of my career was (note past tense - I'm semi-retired) spent in the aerospace (NASA) world.

We are at the point where we hope to do more traveling and playing so we just bought a new Buick Enclave as our road car and ordered the 4Runner for more interesting excursions. I'm looking forward to building the rig even more than my previous efforts because, as I mentioned above, this one will definitely be focused on having fun.

When we design a new vehicle in the space biz, we often develop something we call a design reference mission. We then measure our decisions about how to build the system against the question of whether or not a particular feature contributes to the success of that reference mission.

So, I've picked the Alpine Loop in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado as my design reference mission. Back in the 70's I did a fair amount of 4 wheeling in the San Juans and in the 80's actually covered much of the Alpine Loop on a mountain bike. Yes, as a "flat-lander" I spent a lot of time pushing my bicycle up mountain passes. But, it was still a lot of fun.

So this time I want to cover the Alpine Loop and similar treks on 4 wheels instead of 2. Having done a lot of back packing, car camping, etc., we are now more focused on a scenario like getting up in Lake City, driving up and over Cinnamon Pass enjoying some snooping around the old mining towns, and then dropping down into Silverton for a hot shower, meal, and drinks on the porch.

So, I'll say thanks for all the helpful information I've already uncovered and really look forward to learning more about this really cool truck.

Talking 1st post

Hi all!

Bought this in January, got held up with some other projects and work but I'm sure this isn't the first time that has been said. Anyway, obviously a lot of work has already been done, but I do have some more plans for it.

Feel free to fire away with any questions of curiosity [15 post min ]

- Aaron

I have stalked these forums forever, but now I am trying to sell my 3rd gen 1998 manual. I don't want that engine to be lost forever.

Hello,
I've been on the forum for awhile, but haven't posted until now.
I have a gold 2005 SR5 4.0 RWD we picked up about 2 years ago with less than 100k on it. Generally in good shape but trying to sort out some issues with it.

Hey, I've been lurking for a while, trying to find a good 4Runner. Was constantly trying to find a 3rd Gen, but they seem to be too much of a boutique item now, and prices of "low mileage' (under 150k) have sky rocketed.

But then a mint 4th Gen Limited popped up, so I jumped on it! Super pleased with the truck. Living in SF Bay area without a car for the past 6 years has taken a toll on me! I can finally stop bumming rides. I've already taken 5 trips to the mountains in the 6 weeks I've had it.

Now time for suspension and tires!

Howdy guys. Was into Jeep XJs some years back. Wanting to get back into a 4x4 that doesn't take so much maintenance. Considering an 80 Series Land Cruiser, but more than likely a 3rd Gen Runner for the mpg.
