A total newbie

Hello all.

Purchased my first 4runner TRD XP predator package last month here in Houston, the 2018 model.

Really loving the purchase and looking forward to personalizing my vehicle and exchanging ideas with those of you who know infinitely more than me on this stuff.

Wreck em Tech!

Cheers!

Ben

Newbie

Hello all,
Brought home my first 4runner today. 2005 V8 SR5.
Former Tundra owner, former only because it got totaled last year. Bought this to use a tow vehicle for my fishing boat.

Reintroduction

Reintroduction here!!

Joined the forum about a year ago when I bought my '98 limited with 396,00 miles on it. Did a complete TB and WP refresh as well as replacing all the gaskets I could find down to the intake manifold, new radiator, any and all sensors, etc. The truck hasn't skipped a beat

However coming into the forum to hopefully document my build. Taking it from my daily driver to doing a major overhaul this upcoming year with major emphasis on a new power plant. We'll see where the time take's it(:

Glad to be apart of the community!!

Thanks to all the information I found on this forum, I was able to negotiate what I thought was a pretty good deal. I paid $90 over invoice on a special order. I guess you folks can let me know whether or not that's a good deal.

As the name implies, I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and, except for 10 years in the Navy, have basically my entire life. Most of my career was (note past tense - I'm semi-retired) spent in the aerospace (NASA) world.

We are at the point where we hope to do more traveling and playing so we just bought a new Buick Enclave as our road car and ordered the 4Runner for more interesting excursions. I'm looking forward to building the rig even more than my previous efforts because, as I mentioned above, this one will definitely be focused on having fun.

When we design a new vehicle in the space biz, we often develop something we call a design reference mission. We then measure our decisions about how to build the system against the question of whether or not a particular feature contributes to the success of that reference mission.

So, I've picked the Alpine Loop in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado as my design reference mission. Back in the 70's I did a fair amount of 4 wheeling in the San Juans and in the 80's actually covered much of the Alpine Loop on a mountain bike. Yes, as a "flat-lander" I spent a lot of time pushing my bicycle up mountain passes. But, it was still a lot of fun.

So this time I want to cover the Alpine Loop and similar treks on 4 wheels instead of 2. Having done a lot of back packing, car camping, etc., we are now more focused on a scenario like getting up in Lake City, driving up and over Cinnamon Pass enjoying some snooping around the old mining towns, and then dropping down into Silverton for a hot shower, meal, and drinks on the porch.

So, I'll say thanks for all the helpful information I've already uncovered and really look forward to learning more about this really cool truck.

Thanks for sharing. This is a very interesting introduction, especially the part about the reference mission. I think doing things with some sort of purpose can make the experience more gratifying. Something tells me you池e going to have a lot of fun with your 4Runner!

That cage/tubing/chassis around your vehicle is really unique. Did you make it yourself?

Newbie

Hi all from Texas. I知 a recently retired Pipeliner and a do it yourselfer whenever I can (or at least until I fail). Wife and grandmother of 8 drives a Jeep as her everyday mall crawler, but suddenly decided she wanted a lifted 4Runner. After a couple weeks of searching we landed a 2019 SR5 Premium in classic silver. I searched and read this forum for weeks before deciding on lift and tires. I installed the lift myself, so when I hit my quota I wanted to share in other threads my experiences and lessons learned. Looking forward to the adventure.

Hi there, just picked up my 2014 T4R SR5 in silver yesterday. Been wanting a T4R since my brother’s ‘88 died. That was over 20 years ago. Live just south of Calgary, Alberta. Thanks to this site, I was able to get the information I needed before buying my T4R. Next on the agenda will be new tires and possibly a lift kit.
