You can get a 5th gen trail for a pretty slick deal right now, although I do love those 4th gen V8s if you can find one.

Love the quicksand. That and cavalry blue are the only reasons I was pulled away from the KDSS and into a pro. I would certainly stick with the KDSS though in retrospect. I just don’t run my rigs too hard and enjoy looking like a tool.

New member here! NorCal here. Picked up TRD off road premium 3-4 weeks ago. I’ve been lurking in here for a while. I was one of those that wanted to wait for the 6th gen but I figured by the time the 6th gen comes out I’ll be too old to enjoy it. And the aftermarket parts will take a while to catch up to the 5th gen.

Howdy from Alabama

Love the forum! I have been lurking a bit and finally bit the bullet after I smoked an AUTO 1994 4x4 4runner doing a Gambler 500 (it would only pull in 4lo). I bought a local high mileage 5 speed donor 1992 4runner 4x4, and have swapped everything back into the 1994! I replaced all the needed and moving parts (clutch, master, slave, blah blah blah) but I am now getting stumped when it comes to the wiring (pins and plugs are different).... needless to say, I will be lurking a bit more and hopefully will be able to find someone who's crossed the same bridge I have.

Thanks in advance (also, goes without saying, the AT is damn huge and very heavy)

Welcome! Very nice and clean looking 4Runner!

Hope you find the right deal man. You two got good looking trucks. One day I'll get my hands on a taco as well. Haha.

Finally!!

Hey there!
I just purchased my 4Runner a few days ago and I couldn’t be happier! This has been after years of “almost” pulling the trigger. I purchased a ‘20 SR5 Premium. I really wanted to make this thing mine by doing my own mods, rather than doing add ons at the dealership. I’ve been looking at different things, but I’m having a hard time finding things that fit a ‘20. Any tips on where to buy or groups to join would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to learning all things 4Runner from the pro’s. 😜

New 2020 TRD Pro owner

Hey guys and gals, just picked up my 2020 TRD Pro today! Had an 89 4R around 25 yrs ago and always loved it. I have to tell you this thing is sweet! Can’t wait to learn more about it from you guys. I already know something has to be done about the headlights. Have become accustomed to the output of HID and the halogen headlamps was disappointing however the LED fog lamps really put out some light. Anyway, I’ll be lurking and reading since I don’t have much to offer at this point so thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,

I am a new member. Honestly, I have used this forum quite a bit in fixing my 1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited 2WD. But, I finally decided to join after months of lurking, so to speak. My 4R has 650k miles on it and it's had 2 new engines and a new transmission this far. She still runs like a champ though.

Thanks for reading.

What's up,

I've had my runner for about a year now but just found this forum.

Mine is a little older, but I love it!

94 with a 3" BL, an ARB bumper is next!

New to forum

I have just purchased a 2000 v6 SR5 auto and looking to do a manual swap when i find a parts truck. No nannies just ABS with if i choose to keep it. Transfer case is manual shift.
I have been staring at wiring diagrams and trying to understand what does what. I need to sort the ecu stuff.

Question 1
Why does the ecu need to know if 2wd of 4wd?
Does it just limit functions to certain speeds or does it actually change the engine settings for better performance? I believe it turns off the abs when diff lock is on, limits the speed for use of the rear diff lock (N/A I dont have one) and engages the ADD. but what else?

Question 2
What ecu's can i use for this project ie year? tundra tacoma? 4wd 2wd?

I would appreciate any input on this.

Hello from SilvaRunner

Hello everyone, I have watched this group and used it for research while shopping for my vehicle. Finally I get to join now that I purchased my own 5th Gen 4Runner about a month ago on March 9th, 2020. I have always owned Toyota and Lexus vehicles my whole life however the wife liked the look of the X5's. Unfortunately we bought one and no disrespect to any BMW fans out there but it was by far the worst, most unreliable POS I have ever owned. We cut bait on it and I went after a 5th Gen Limited 4x4 4Runner to replace it. I searched for 8 months and finally found the right one. I am so impressed with the quality of this vehicle and we are extremely excited to be 4Runner owners. I work for an essential medical facility so I am not on layoff like so many others right now. I pray for everyone to stay safe, healthy, stay home if at all possible and when out and about please respect social distancing and wear face coverings. Thank you for your time and I am happy to be here.

Here she is...

Here is the vehicle I replaced with the 4Runner.

and here is a memento it left me to remember it by! LOL
