Congrats on the new rig! We have a 2016 as well and oh man, I remember thinking the same thing. There are SO MANY options and most people usually have only tried one, so it’s hard to get a good comparison. I went with the basic OME setup to get started since it’s reliable and more affordable. It’s done everything I need it to. That said, I’m considering an upgrade later this year to something with remote reservoirs. Haven’t decided which yet. Chatting with manufacturers if you can is a great way to get your questions answered. ARB spent 30 minutes on the phone with me before I bought anything. It was awesome. I also recommend reaching out to Rogue Offroad because they have run just about every suspension setup under the sun on 5th gen 4Runners and 3rd gen Tacomas.

Not sure if went through

Not sure if original message went through so wanna post it again. Plus gotta meet that minimum.

Hey guys my name is Josh. I have a 2003 Toyota 4runner limited V8 with 401k miles. It needs a new brake master cylinder and the timing belt needs to be replaced. I have taken very good care of it, never have had any major problems. My question is should I spend the 3k to get it fixed or call it quits? Looking to get some other peoples opinions. I love the feel of the V8, you cant find them like this anymore. But 400k is a ton of miles and whats to say something else does go out.

401k is inspiring! It makes me feel better about putting work into my 04 V8 @ 210k! How long have you had it?

Hopefully someone else can chime in with more _mechanics_ knowledge. You could do a compression test on engine to check the valves. In terms of if anything else could possibly go out, a lot of it may depend on your maintenance records. And hey I mean if the chassis is good and you want to keep driving it!

New and wanting to buy!

Hi all,

First came here after finding the 3rd gen buying guide stickied and am going to stick around because it looks like such a great community!

Looking in CO for a 4Runner for camping. My main questions are should I be prioritizing rigs that have already had a lot of work done, but come with higher mileage (220k but have new timing belt/pump, ball joints, etc done) or lower mileage around 180k but only done oil changes and the like.

new here, first post!

New here, to the forum and to 4runners.

Seeking a relatively stock 3rd gen located somewhere in the West, so if anyone has any leads, let me know!

I’m a long time lurker. I appreciate all the advice on this forum. I just ordered King shocks for my 2019 ORP with KDSS and I’m sure i will have some questions in the near future.

My first 4runner wasn't my best experience with buying a used car

So I have been in the market for an suv. I'll admit a 4runner wasn't in my top 3 choices for a new to me suv but now that I have one I must say I'm glad to have it. However the experience of purchasing it was absolutely terrible. I'm not even sure i'm out of the whole yet but here's the story.
So Sunday night around 10 pm in the midst of a chicago burb riot I decided to purchase this 2001 4runner before things got out of hand. The seller claims it had one owner from florida. Long story short it stalled ten minutes after leaving the sellers place. With 2600 less dollars in my pocket and a broken down car my gf and i pushed it onto a side street. Fast forward to three a.m. and i'm home and in bed. The next day the carfax showed this thing had 4 owners, none of em outside the midwest and it also had a mileage rollback. This thing has 215k miles on it.... its 2wd and i paid 2600 dollars for it.
PS it was out of gas. Panic and exhaustion got the better of me that night.

I have it at a mechanic today. I'm going to have them do an entire inspection on it before i get ready to put money into it. Needs some new tires, rear shocks and tie rod ends, seals in the back axle are leaking and i found jb weld on the pumpkin above the fill hole. Is this thing worth 2600 dollars????
