Just poking around again, I've always looked at the 4Runner as being an awesome platform for a build - I just happen to always have a Tacoma.

My Wife's Forester is getting old, and we are starting to look for a replacement. I'm leaning hard for a 4Runner.

Greenhorn Here.

Hi All,

Been watching for a long time, but finally pulled the trigger on a new off-road. Glad to finally say I own a 4Runner.

See you around.

Hello! Made an account to get some second (and third) opinions - about to pull the trigger on my first 4Runner after seeing it yesterday.

2003 SR5 V8 4WD (would have liked the extra power from VVT but sounds like it isn't a night and day difference?)

170,000 miles.

Price is $7k. Is this reasonable? I know the values are pretty inflated on 4Runners in general, but this price seems pretty in line for my area, in fact even a pretty good deal... (PNW with plenty of outdoorsy folk)

Body is in excellent condition, surface rust only, brand new all-weather tires, interior in decent shape, all electric features work except for rear hatch window.

Timing belt was done at 155,000 miles. Unknown if for the first time and overdue or if it was second time. Oil and transmission fluids done recently.

Center diff locker may not work. Pressed the button yesterday while stopped, and light flashed a few times but didn't stay on. Although apparently you should be moving a bit? Will try again.

No ticking sound heard from engine for the cracked exhaust manifold issue, but I'm aware that this may be a future issue.

Here's my biggest concern: coolant looks orange.

Looked in the plastic reservoir and the coolant looks red (I'm used to seeing green but I guess Toyota's coolant is red?), but it looks more orange under the rad cap. Didn't look gunky or milky, and also no smoke coming from exhaust on start up, so hoping it's not a head gasket issue. Thought it might just be a bit of rust/corrosion that would be taken care of by a coolant flush. Thoughts?

Hi everyone!
Finally made an account after snooping for months on this forum.
I have a 4th Gen '05 4Runner, V6 2WD with 120k miles. I come from a hardcore 4Runner family, it's like the only car my fam knows. Anyways mines a beaut-- runs smoothly and has no problems (aside from dead tire pressure sensors I need to replace lol). Changed the transmission @ 77k miles after some issues and it's been good since.

I love 4Runners and looking to lift mine. I don't off-road I just like the aesthetic (don't judge me pls I have enough from my husband since my 4Runner is 2WD and not the AWD )
I think I want to lift anywhere from 1.5-3inches max. I would love folks input on lift kits and anything else!

See y'all around.

I'm quite the audiophile and decked out the sound system in my 2002 . I want to hurry and change out the sound system in the 2015 but after reading through @Desert dawg 's thread at least 10 times, I have decided to work on some exterior changes first!

Already in a tough spot because I traded out my OEM wheels with some 20's on my uncle's tacoma.. Put some thin toyo's around them but they still rubbed pretty badly.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna order some Fuel Hostage III wheels. Super excited to get those in because I can't drive it until then!

Since I'm having to spend more on wheels, I will be running with my factory tires until I use them up. Next thing I want to do is work on my front and back valences. I want them to be matte black.. Not sure how I want to go about that.. I was considering plasti-dipping them, then i saw some had vinyl wrap put on them. Any advice on what I should do? Pretty new to all of this!

Thanks to all who have unknowingly provided awesome information on your threads for this newbie and many others! Can't wait to start posting!
You are not alone buddy

The Tundra is nice but after having both I’d prefer the 4 runner 90% of the time.

Saying hi from Michigan, just got a 2012 limited with 70k on it. Already put T9 in it and got some snow tires on FJ rims for our crazy winters.

Talking Hey fellow 4Runners!

Hi! Have read many threads so figured why not create an account. I am just a girl that loves to wander, travel and camp out in her 4Runner, 05 SR5, doing upgrades as I can afford them. Lots done and lots to be done so a work in continual progress lol when I can figure out how to upload some pics, I will.
