Well Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Anyone who is familiar with the how to check the timing chain set up with the engine assembled (valve covers off) please PM me and maybe I can get an answer before the preset number of post. I actually feel bad about cluttering this post. Moderator - please feel free to delete my replies.

I haven't had Spam in years, of course I'm allergic to hooved mammals so it would put me in the ER, and it's not really that good anyway.

I do miss bacon though, and turkey bacon is a poor substitute but it you cook it crispy, it still sucks. Kinda like bacoos at best or how every you spell the fake bacon bits.

What is down stream of the underwood coil fuse?
Just spent an hour introducing myself and describing the need for this knowledge but when I clicked Review Post button, it all disappeared.
So I thought I would get straight to it and add the fluff later if someone can help, I will then ask about anything special needing to be done to the relay I want to install.
:P

Reviving Grandpa's 3rd gen
Hey-ho! Just got into 4runner life this year with my grandfather's 2001 4runner that he handed down to me. It's not at 200k yet, and I want it to run to at least 300k.
Blew a head gasket in the first few months, and just got it back together. Still not on the road, though...
It ran rough until stalling, and the PCV hose popped off the valve due to pressure build up. Could this be an issue with the valves opening?
I'm trying to find a good approach before taking anything apart, again.
Thanks! -field

Hi! New to forum
Have been lurking on here, own a 2006 SR5 and this site has helped a lot in maintenance and keeping my ride out of the shop/dealership.
Have an oil leak and trying to determine if it's due to valve cover gasket or timing cover related, praying to anyone who will listen that it's just valve cover gasket.

Newest New Guy
Hello from Colorado.
I have been lurking for a while, and today was the day. I have a 2016 4Runner that just hit the 51k mark. The 4 runner always impressed me back in my Jeep days when I had a 98 XJ. Anyways, trying to get my 15 posts in and trying to avoid the stupid questions or repeat questions. One that I cant seem to fine is what model I actually have. I believe I have a TRD being that I have the fake scoop and all the dials above in the center. And thought I had the Pro due to those, but I have cloth seats, but no turn signals on the mirror, and the previous owner de-badge, and they plasti dipped the bumpers and grill. I did find a TRD Off Road XP, but mine does not have the TOYOTA a crossed the front, just the painted black bar. So I am a little confused on what I have. Everything I have googled, I don't believe you can tell the model from a VIN, or it had to come directly from Toyota. Either way, I am liking the 4Runner, enjoying the cargo space vs. my Subaru, and liking the gas mpg over my old Sierra with lift. I have not been on a forum in a while, so again I hope I do not ask too many repeated questions.

I *think* if it's the valve cover gasket you can usually see seepage around the valve cover gasket and gritty burnt oil mixed with dirt nearby as well. Are you seeing any signs of where the oil is coming from, or is the level just going down? Also check for "chocolate milkshake" under radiator cap, hopefully it's not the head gasket. If it's over 200k miles and the valve cover gasket is original then might be time to replace just for preventative maintenance.

That's awesome you've got your grandpa's 4Runner, always nice to see them stay in the family! Hope you can figure out the issue, wish I had some ideas to suggest. All I can think of is connecting an OBDII monitor (I like the OBDLinkMX+, but I think there are cheaper options) and seeing if it can give you any helpful data. Good luck, and hopefully you can keep your 4Runner going for much longer than 300k miles, 3rd gens are amazing vehicles! (At least, when they're not having issues...)
