First Post: New 5th Gen Owner

Hi everyone. I'm XRay21. Long time Jeep and Xterra owner (30+ years). Yes, I am old! Nissan bailed on the Xterra; so the wife and I decided to try a 4Runner. We've always wanted one, but never could justify the price (compared to the X). Purchased a 4x4 SR5 last year and it is still stock. I'm not a guy for mods; I usually just do AT tires after I wear out the stock tires. My "wheeling" is baby stuff: dirt roads, gravel roads, unimproved forest service roads, etc. Most of the time I only put it in 4Lo just so I can creep along without riding the brake (don't really need the traction).

The 4Runner (even plain SR5) is a big step up from my 2nd Gen Xterra. Fit and finish are a lot better. Suspension is really, really smooth (how did they get a solid rear axle truck to ride so good?); much smoother than the old Xterra. No rattles (course the X was 11 years old).

Not looking forward to wrestling with the 2 piece oil filter housing on my first oil change. But it's under warranty, so I've got 4 more years before I'll be changing it myself.

Just wanted to introduce myself and get my post count up.

Later
XRay

And the reason I am trying to get my post count up is so I can start a post with pictures of some very slight damage to front bumper cover. The wife scraped a concrete pylon the other day. It's very minor, but my body repair sills are limited to using the "toothpick method" to fill in little chips. This is going to take more work. Need some advice on how to handle the repair. A mobile body shop quoted me $350. We may have to just bite the bullet and pay $$$ but I want to try.

Thanks,
XRay

Smile New 4Runner Member

Hi! Thanks for making this thread for new members, this forum has already given me so much fantastic information and I hope to learn how to use it even better.

I currently own a 2003 SR5 V8 4WD that I completed a bunch of work on as soon as I purchased it. The 03 is my second 4Runner, my first being a 92 which started my obsession with 4runners.

I have a couple questions but I'm not sure this is the right place to ask...

Question 1: When I go to post something like a reply to a thread and I want to add an image the site wants me to enter a link rather than uploading a photo. How do I connect the photo I want to post/reply with to a link?

Question 2: How do I make/use a signature? I have seen other members with links to their photo albums and etc in their signature under "about me" but I was not able to find an option to "create" my own signature.

Thanks!

Talking Champagne SR5

My rig has 216k+ miles on it and with the lift and tires it drives like a dream. I heard someone describe toyota SUVs like the 4runners, gxs, landcruisers, and etc as "Tanklike" which I think I agree with. I must say the fuel economy is atrocious, my 03 V8 gets like 12-13 mpgs on a good day.

Red face 4runners are the best!

I picked up my first 4runner when I was 15 before I even had my full license (also my first car) and it had 225k+ miles on it, I drove it for a while and replaced the tires with 32" discovery stt pro mud tires. I also had the head gasket, timing chain, radiator, and alternator replaced and I tinkered with it a little bit. I ended up selling it when I got a great deal on an engine project truck and have regretted it ever since. I imagine if I could get that first 4runner back I would do something like an engine swap, possibly an LS although a 2.7l toyota engine would probably be mint. LS swap would be fun though as I have experience from swapping a 6.0l LQ4 into a 95 mustang (great drift vehicle) you just can't beat the power of a V8.

Hello all, from Southern Ontario. My 2017 4Runner is off lease. Now that it is all mine, I can start mods, but more importantly, I can go off road without having to worry. Not the most capable guy yet, but very teachable and willing to invest the time and effort. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your posts as they have helped me a lot, in getting my feet wet.

Just changed my spark plugs and wires, can’t wait to get everything fixed and in perfect order. Love doing maintenance on it to get it in prime shape.

Just upping my post count so I can actually post and get some help.
