Greetings and let's get started!

Hello all. This forum has been a blessing for my little 4runners health for a very long time. Now there's a new chapter. My 1991 4Runner 2wd has finally dropped the transmission. 250k miles and she gave up the ghost. It seems that my runner has 4wd front hubs and bearings, just no drive components. I've always wanted her to be. 4wd. So has she! So is it possible to install a 4x4 auto tranny and front end parts to cause it to be so? What are the pitfalls and danger zones? Was thinking I might lift her a little while doing this and maybe a few simple mods that would be best suited to be done during this time as well. Hoping to find good used parts and supplies along the way. We've always had this truck in the family and it does have some sentimental value. Looking to make this my winter project with enough help and advice. Okay I'm open to suggestions and advice; good or bad. Thanks

Sentimental value is a tough one. It's a lot easier to find one that is already four-wheel-drive and go from there. Keep it as a daily driver and buy another one to build and four-wheel-drive it. Anything is possible if you have deep enough pockets.

now we have new problems with tranny, CAN NOT figure it out.. HELP!!!!

okay I decided to keep her as a two wheel drive and buy another already four wheel drive for fun. I took her (91 t4r, auto, six cyl) to the shop and they did a complete rebuild; twice! replaced the dash guage cluster (some sensor) neutral safety switch, and some other sensor. Still having problems. After a few months of tinkering they threw up their hands and gave her back. Now how does she drive? 1st and second gears seem fine. Third on occassion? Never gets to overdrive. They've thrown parts at her until I'm broke and still she wont run correctly. Not throwing any codes. Could it be electrical? I'm getting worn out and need some help, or at least some consoling. I miss driving this little rig and the trip (slowly) from the shop to the house was a good one. Now what to do (?) where to look next? Man I hope one of you guys has some answers. Cheers
