Well, I have a rear diff leak. My husband looked at it, and thinks the leak is coming from a broken bolt on the lower left side. That's all he told me. Someone on a different thread said that may not be possible since the fluid is held in an area where there are no bolts. I've also been told that we may need to weld a cover over the area of the leak. Both people asked for pictures. I need my husband to help me with this because I have no idea where to look. My car leaks about a tablespoon or so a day. It started in July, and at that time, my husband got under there and plugged it, but not 100%. It did stop for a few weeks, but started up again... late Aug/early Sept. We did have a diff service after my husband "plugged" it so it was full as of Aug. 6. I imagine that it must be very low with fluid, and I know it's getting critical. I came here to see if anyone could advise me on what to do. I fear maybe having to replace the entire rear axle. I guess first and foremost, I need to keep adding whatever fluid goes in there until we get a permanent fix.

First Post - first time Gen 5 Owner

Just getting into T4R and purchasing a new TE with KDSS - taking delivery next week. Live in CO with lots of trails that the Suby couldn't handle.

With the differential leaking my first reaction is to inspect the cover and make sure its not damaged. After that then service it and make sure to put sealent all around. Differentials are easy to spot where the leak is coming from... you are looking for two main things a damaged cover or a work seal around the cover.

I'm sure I'm noobier? more noobie? than you.

I just bought a 4Runner Trail and the only mod so far is removing the window sticker.

(random, obligatory post to up my post count)

Just joined. Find it weird that we need 15 posts. Almost seems to cause a reduction in quality of posts. Anyways. Great forum. Trying to sell my 4th gen 2003 limited v8. Looking to buy a tacoma 2009 or so. Also have an electric rav4.
