hello from wisconsin

hello i picked up a 1988 4runner for a deal that was to good to pass up. the problem is it has sat since 2012 and the motor is now locked up so im looking for a parts truck as we speak lol. but till then i can get it all cleaned up and looking better till i get it running. and the driver side rocker is rotting out and mice chewed up the rear seat belts. so i have a few questions. 4runner - Google Photos cant get my pics to up load so i made an album lol

1. where do you guys get parts for your first gen?

2. anyone know how to get the back window to roll down it will click but wont move with the key or switch im thinking its a bad window motor?

3. any place to buy replacement rocker pannels?

4. are the windows on the removable top replaceable? the metal around the windows is rusted through on just the passenger side

Welcome! Need to say that I LOVED my 1988 that I bought new. Take your time and look for the right parts - i.e. OEM parts if possible. You can find stuff. The 22R-E engine is nearly indestructible.

The truck needs to know 2 things in order for the back window to work. First, it needs to know that the tailgate is closed - a switch tells it that. Also, it needs to know the wiper is fully parked - another switch. Sorry, I had so little trouble with mine over 305k miles that I can't tell you exactly where those switches are located. But I bet one of them is to blame if the fuse is ok. I do know that when I wanted to clean my rear window, I would open the tailgate, then manually close both tailgate latches with a screwdriver, then CAREFULLY run the window out about 7/8 and support it while cleaning. I'd then run the window back down, and move the release handle to re-open the latches.

I believe the side windows are removable. I actually had the 'frames' replaced on mine under Toyota's no-rust-through warranty way back when. Basically just black-painted metal trim pieces, not structural. I really don't remember if they removed the windows to fix that.

Again, take your time looking for stuff - it's out there. BTW, how many miles on her?

Welcome! I just bought a 2002 T4R. And having to replace the engine. I Bought mine from Kar King Auto in Ontario, California. If you're interested Google them and call the 800# ask to speak with Jorge. Good luck with your build
