Colorado transplant to Texas-Revived member

Howdy all I moved to Texas from Colorado for a job, Texas culture, and cost of living. To those of you living in Colorado, I don't know how you can stand the influx of liberal drug addicts but that's neither here nor there. I'm slowing down on mods to look for a place to live and to get settled. Excited to see other builds and to have an apparently rare v8 4x4 in Texas now. Hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving and since it's Veterans day a big thanks to you for your sacrifice and service; some of us still support you. (Man did Colorado leave a bad taste in my mouth). PM me for any questions as I only know basic mechanics but love to give unsolicited advice that will cost you thousands!

Welcome indeed! Note:You'll find much fewer public lands here for Wheel'n. They are private, so you have to pay or know someone, often.

Having said that...there are a few great spots if you are willing to drive a bit to get there.

AND GO IN THE WINTER!!!

Im headed to the Colorado Springs area. I'm from Hawai'i so it will be my first time living in a place that snows heavy. Its going to be a bit of an adjustment but i'm excited for the hunting, fishing and finally hitting the slopes without buying a plane ticket.

Got any advice for someone whos never been to Colorado?

Leaving Hawaii?! 🤔 JK Colorado is beautiful!

I was born and raised in Colorado, here's a few tips/tricks:

Sure it snows but it usually melts quickly. If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes. If your buying a house or townhome buy a house with the front door facing South, the snow will be in sunlight and will melt quickly.

Colorado Springs is a great city! Very pretty. I had a roommate who lived off Briargate north of the airforce academy. Colorado is getting a huge influx of residents...so best of luck buying a home, you might have to bid on one. The incline, broadmoor, olympic training center, and airforce academy are in the Springs.

The mountains are awesome and should be explored to the fullest extent! I've climbed about a dozen 14ers. I'd also recommend Mt Evans, its the highest paved road with great views. You can park by a lake and hike up around the backside but be aware of weather it comes in quick. If your doing ANY 14er try to SUMMIT by NOON so you can avoid weather. I wouldn't advise climbing any 14ers in winter until your experienced. Bring lots of water, trail mix and warm clothing. In search and rescue we had a motto: You can always take clothes off, you can't put on what you didn't bring Youtube what to bring on a 14er. Depending on what your hike looks like you should bring a lightweight backpack or 36 hour pack. Again YouTube is your friend. Whistles can be lifesavers and tell someone, coworker or friend, where your going and when you'll roughly be back so someone knows if your missing. Water, snacks, mre's are quick and handy, small and large fixed blade knives or hatchet, lighter and waterproof matches, poncho, paracord, Gatorade or vitamin water (electrolytes), compass or map, and battery bank for phone.

Buy a good pocket knife Benchmade, microtech, check out bladeshq website for good info. In Colorado I think the blade has to be under 3.1 inches I think( check laws), automatic knives are illegal in Colorado, but I'd carry a folder ever time your hiking. I don't have any experience hunting sadly, something I really want to get into. Also buy flashlights, the mountains are dark especially when overcast. I like Klarus, Olight, and Streamlight. Ever hear of the saying one is none and two is one? I like redundancy and literally have had a flashlight crap out on me when I thought it was charged more than once.

There are hundreds of trails, check out Alltrails app its very helpful with distance from your house, difficulty, length, elevation gain etc.

Look at Epic pass for boarding/skiing, it'll pay for itself quickly. I like Breckenridge, Aspen, and Loveland. Take lessons it'll help and save you from bruises learning on your own.

I love Colorado and miss the mountains being in Texas but the influx made it hard to get a job out of college and the housing market is crazy. Welcome to the mile high city and enjoy! Oh and congrats on getting a 4runner they're amazing...but will be extra expensive in Colorado. I wish I would have gone out of state. Texas actually has some great deals on 4runners especially 4x4s since you don't really need it in Texas. I'll sell you my 07 Limited v8 4x4 with 130k miles accident free for 17k 😁😁😁

I was in the Denver area from 92-98. My dad is still out there in the Parker/So. Aurora area so I do plan on taking a trip out there with the family some time next year.
