Thule Rack question for 2019 with raised side rails
My wife and I have an 8' aluminum boat that we hoist onto the roof of all of the past cars we've had, including a 2017 VW Gti. We make it work.
Last Monday I bought my first 4Runner. I have the side rails on my SR5P and I don't want the factory cross bars, as the boat is 4.5' wide. The roof rack has to be aftermarket.
Thule and Yakima both make those aerodynamic roof racks. I want to upgrade from the round bars I have to the silver Thule bars because they are a little cheaper than the silver aerodynamic Yakima bars.
The round bars that I have can work. If I buy the foot kits, they will clamp on for pretty short money. That's not the issue.
Let's just talk about the Thule silver aerodynamic bars, which they call the Wingbar Evo. For length, Thule recommends the 53" bar. This length is too narrow to carry the boat. I want to buy the 60" bar, but I'm not sure if it will fit. There are slots on the bottom of the Thule bar that prevent you from sliding the foot kit toward the center of the bar, which I would need to do if I want to attach the longer bar.
The Yakima aerodynamic bar will definitely fit, but I'm looking to save some money by buying a Thule instead.
Does anyone have a Thule 60' aerodynamic bar attached to their raised roof rails? And are you happy about the fit?
I have searched all over this forum and I can't seem to find my answer. Maybe I should just buy a trailer.
