Hey Alex - apologies for the delay in response - but to answer your question:
Obviously the jump from my '93 to '13 was a huge step. Don't get me wrong, if I came across another 2nd gen in good condition I'd grab it in a second!
From 2013 to 2020 I feel as if the 5th gen model has been refined over the years. The build quality seems to be a bit better. Also - the tech has gotten better as well.
Before I traded in my 2013 I was going to upgrade the stereo and get rid of the not-so-good stock nav/head unit. Needless to say I didn't - and saved that $$ to upgrade the stereo on our Jeep instead.
The 2020 models come standard with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a slew of other tech improvements including lane departure warning, sway warning, adaptive cruise among other things that Toyota's Safety Sense package has. There is a lot more variety in the 4Runner lineup as well. In 2013 (and you guys feel free to chime in if I'm incorrect
!!) they only offered the SR5, Trail, and Limited. Now there is SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off Road, Off Road Premium, Venture, Limited, Nightshade, and TRD Pro. (and I conveniently listed those in MSRP from lowest to highest)
Hopefully this helps - I'm sure this has been discussed among the forums as well.
